While updating her followers on her progress for her Beekeeper Mei cosplay, Mariah posted this picture of a neck piece:

She doesn’t outright claim its her work, but she also does NOT give credit to anyone who made the piece. About a day later she posts the same piece again, saying she added highlights to it. Again, there is NO credit for whoever made it, letting her followers assume it was her.

On the same day it was revealed that another cosplayer by the name of KBBQ (David) actually snapchatted this exact neckpiece saying he had made it. KBBQ and Mariah were friends and worked together on various other pieces, mostly KBBQ making many of her armors for past cosplays. Just last month they had a very public split which resulted in KBBQ removing all his social media, or so people thought.

People were unsure if this was legit, since the cap does not show any username or other proof that it was KBBQ’s snapchat. However people who are friends with KBBQ, or who are friends with people close to KBBQ did they’re own investigation. It was then confirmed by various sources that KBBQ made this piece as well as a pair of gloves.

Upon realizing that Mariah had posted a picture of the neckpiece and did not credit KBBQ, people started asking questions on her FB post. At first Mariah claims she made the pieces, but when pressured more about it full on admits KBBQ made it.

These caps are not the complete comment thread, but parts of it that show Mariah claiming she made it and then admitting KBBQ made it.

Mariah also claims she did credit him in her IG story, however others that follow her say this is a lie. I can’t confirm since I don’t follow her. However, even if she did, giving him credit in a story is not sufficient. These stories are deleted in 24 hours, while the FB/ IG posts remain up without the credit. Credit should be given across all platforms.

People have also noticed not giving a credit is somewhat of a trend for Mariah. Recently a photographer who used to work with her also revealed that the reason he stopped working with her is because she did not credit his photos, badgered him about photoshopping/ editing the photos as well as outright asking for raw photos. Will most likely make a separate post for this, as well as the falling out between her and KBBQ.

So the people in question are Elli and Zoey. Neither are their real names. Elli is my best friend since I moved to the states for School, Zoey is pretty much a ticking time bomb.

The three of us WERE all roommates (Elli and I finally moved out!) and we were all into cosplaying. Zoey did a lot of anime and manga cosplay (Elli and I were in Love Live Hell for the last couple weeks) while Elli and I did mostly video game and Movie cosplays. Our next con was AnimeNEXT and Elli and I would room together while Zoey roomed with her friends.

Zoey thought it would be a good idea to make a “Historically accurate FemKorea” cosplay from the series Hetalia a few weeks before con. Did absolutely no research, thought any asian culture would be okay to throw onto the costume, completely shut down my thoughts and ideas for it and shouted at me “well its not like YOU’RE gonna wear this!”. Which was true, but as a first generation Korean American who is seeing her culture ripped to shreds all for the sake of a convention, yeah I would say it is my business.

Zoey finally caved and had me help her, I even showed her MY hanboks (traditional Korean Dresses) to get some sort of idea on what could be done. Then about  couple days before we all left for AnimeNEXT, I noticed the 3 garment bags that held my hanboks were missing. I asked my roommates and they both said no. I should have gone with my gut feeling but I was so panicked that I couldn’t think straight because those hanboks had a LOT of sentimental value to them and they were one of a kind! Elli convinced me we would look for them after the con.

Saturday of Con, we found them.

At the Hetalia shoot we saw Zoey wearing my cream and fuchsia hanbok incorrectly and disrespectfully with red dots on her cheeks and Chun Li styled hair buns and chopsticks in her hair and flapping around a Japanese style fan acting as if she was the greatest cosplayer here.

Now im furious. I pulled her aside from the shoot and demanded them back. Other Hetalia cosplayers were yelling at me to leave her alone but FUCK THEM.

I fucking had her take us to her hotel room to get the hanbok off her greasy ass and thats when I see them. Two very familiar garment bags. Zoey kept freaking out that those were hers even though the bags have my initials on them IN KOREAN. And there they were!

One Navy blue and gold hanbok with a Star and Moon motif and one Lavender and Lilac purple hanbok with a butterfly motif to it. The very same ones that went missing from my closet.

Remember how I said that the hanboks had a lot of sentimental value to them and how they were one of a kind?

Both my late grandparents made a living by sewing hanboks for both men and women. They were also the ones who raised me since I was a baby. They MADE the three hanboks for me as gifts: the Butterfly one was a High School Graduation Gift, the Stars and Moon one was a farewell gift, and the Cream and Fuchsia one was for my up and coming Coming of Age gift (I’m currently 19). It really hit me hard to see the dresses go missing because they passed away about 4 months ago but I couldn’t be there because of school.

She stole my possessions just to play dress up for a day and did it so poorly that I’m 100% sure my grandparents are rolling in their graves! Pretty damn sure they’re STILL rolling in their graves!

As a summer job I worked as security for some anime/video game con and one day I was doing my normal rounds and noticed a little kid in a corner he couldn’t of been more then severn years old and I walked up to him and asked where were his parents were he said “In a booth” I asked which one he pointed to some dark and shaded booth and I asked how long he was waiting there two hours. I went up to the booth and look in it and noticed they were serving alcohol and had a sign that said anyone under 21 can not enter and walked in and yelled for his parents who the mother was sloshed and his father was gone and told them that there son was waiting for them and to end a long story short the parents took the kid and themselves back to the hotel that was connected to the con.    

A recent blog here reminded me of an older con horror tale. I was waiting in line to get an autograph from a group of voice actors. Among them was one voice actor who played a rather nasty villain in a popular anime (I’ll call him C.) There was also someone else who starred in the same anime as well. Ahead of me, this guy asks the other voice actor to sign a DVD of the anime. C mentioned to the guy that he was also in the anime as this bad guy and asked the guy if he wanted C to sign it as well. The guy goes into a rant about how C was a pompous jerk and “completely evil” for playing this bad guy. He made a bunch of personal slurs against C and security had to whisk him out. When I got to C, I had him sign something of mine from the same anime. He was actually very friendly to me as we talked for a bit.

For a while, I had been following this really great Elsa cosplayer. For the sake of her privacy, I’m going to call her E. In her photos, her dress is beautiful, and she looks just like her, and she has thousands of followers. She was even my headcanon Elsa! So naturally, I was thrilled when she posted that she would be coming to a con I was going to I had recently finished up an Anna cosplay, so I messaged her asking if we could take photos together, and she said yes.

I’m a gay man. I’ve been gay longer than most of Tumblr has been alive.

I’m also a huge fan of the “Tales of…” series and recently passed “Tales of Zestiria” which is the latest title in the series. This game was a decent game, but not one of my favorites (hello Abyss and Symphonia). The story was very bland and the characters were too predictable for my liking. The game did have the first (supposedly) canon gay couple. I’m saying “supposedly” because the game obviously ships them and there’s supposedly an interview from the creator that was translated that confirms it but then that has also been debunked, so who the fuck knows.

And that’s what my rant is about.  The fandom has its buttcracks chapped all over Sorey x Mikleo. There are people on this fucking site posting

“If you don’t ship it, you’re wrong!”

“It’s been confirmed as Word of God!”

“If you don’t ship it, you’re homophobic.”

“We’re (LGBT+) getting affirmed in a game! Don’t erase us by not shipping it!”

I’m a plus sized girl, and I’m very insecure in my body, I generally choose to cosplay characters who are nearly fully covered up. I was cosplaying my take on Rosalina from Super Mario Galaxy, I had decided to spice her outfit up a little bit with using lights, making the train longer, and using lots of fancy fabric and trim. It was my most popular cosplay, and it gained a lot of attention. It even won an award at a later con! I had a wonderful time the first time I wore it to a con until I ran into a group of Batman lady villains cosplayers.
