I'm seriously gonna cry over this
After some years of HRT I've been left with this deep, low simmering rage. Because what do you mean it was always this easy to be happy
I take a shot once a week, and even if that was too much, I could do it as pills, and so many of my problems just evaporated overnight.
And not one person thought to bring it up.
When I was talking about how horrifying puberty felt. When I was cutting myself. When I was in inpatient care. When I attempted suicide. When I talked for YEARS in therapy about how dissociated and trapped I felt in my body. When I felt like I never truly fixed something that was deeply wrong about me that started at puberty.
Not one person said it was a possibility. No one thought "hey, maybe this kid should go to someone trained to identify dysphoria". No one mentioned that trans people weren't some weird other group of people. It didn't have to be pressure. It didn't have to be "forcing" me. Just mentioning that trans people exist and it could be me. That it was possible and it was easy. No pushing, just laying the option out there.
HRT is treated like this last ditch option. This horrific, mutilating thing that I GUESS we can give to you if you have NO OTHER options. Because did you know it's permanent? Did you know you'll be on it for the rest of your life? Did you know the health risks? Did you know it'll make you infertile? Did you know that it's deviant? Did you know that it's an alternative lifestyle for other people?
No one said it was okay to WANT it to be permanent. Or noted that most people are reliant on the medical system in one way or the other anyways (and it's not even necessary for HRT). Or that the health risks are the normal parts of having that hormone, even in cis people of your gender. Or said it was okay to not want kids, or mention that you can just freeze gametes. Or acknowledged that the "deviant" people are just people, living their lives, that have been violently pushed out of "normal" society.
I grew up in an area that Republicans mock for being a kind of "woke central". And even then it's just. Not treated as an easy option. It was never on the table if you don't specifically already know you're going through gender stuff, and no one will help you get to that point. At which point, it's still treated like the last ditch option. Did you know you can be a feminine man? Did you know you can slap a "she/her" in your twitter bio and be done with it? Did you know that you're oh-so-valid without it? Did you know that you shouldn't take HRT? Maybe don't take HRT? Don't take HRT? Don't take HRT? Don't ta-
When you've been in it a while, HRT is the easiest, most casual thing in the world. Just pop a shot on a Saturday as part of your "everything shower" routine and you're done.
Anyways. Support trans kids always and forever.
And if anyone comes swinging in here with "but Sierra you don't have to take HRT to be trans this is toxic" I'm going to fucking scream, because that is the status quo. "Just do this without doing this" has become a "give them an inch" refrain when making ourselves "acceptable" to the cis. Of COURSE you don't need to take HRT. I'm only reminded of it a dozen times a day.

there's a lot to be said about the different ways transmisogynistic society pushes trans women to minimize our womanhood, especially when first coming out, but the one I don't see talked about a lot is how a lot of us cope by leaning into the comedic "shock factor" of our trans womanhood
this was what I fell into early in transition. I didn't want to be the butt of the joke, so I put myself on the other side of the joke. I joked about how shocking it was that I was a tranny before anyone else could do it for me
I see a lot of trans women acting like this and I want to take their hands and tell them they don't have to be an object of ridicule to be accepted or loved

I think the problem with a lot of "women's" spaces is that their logic of oppression is based in superstitious bioessentialism rather than the actual logic of how oppression works. so they exclude women who are incredibly more oppressed than them on the basis that something about a person's body makes them dangerous, rather than something about their position in society
so you have women's shelters, institutions based on the logic of protecting people who are oppressed by of the systemic and societal structures of sexgender, which exclude those who are most oppressed by the structures of sexgender, ignoring all data that shows just how vulnerable we are
this is TME privilege at work. to be TME is to either have access to male privilege, or to have access (if at times limited and conditional in the case of trans men) to the institutions and resources meant to protect those who don't. trans women have neither of these things
I understand the logic of including trans men in women's shelters, as the project of these shelters should really, in my opinion, be about protecting those oppressed by the structures of sexgender--aka, everyone who isn't a cis man--despite the naming. however, it's telling that a recent post I made about "afab only housing" was quickly derailed from "trans women are explicitly being discriminated against" to "hey, trans men are sometimes not allowed access to these spaces either!" to "trans men are afab, so they should be allowed into women's shelters, but trans women should have to remove their genitals or stay on the street"
the logic underpinning the inclusion of trans men in these spaces is often a bioessentialist logic that excludes trans women, which I think is part of why many of us are wary and combative about arguments on why trans men should be included in "women's" spaces. what these arguments should be based in is, in my opinion, exactly as I said: protecting those oppressed by the structures of sexgender
These orgs seem to have genuine difficulty reasoning about how risk factors in our society work in a material sense. Like it's always made about who is ontologically predisposed to do harm, rather than who has the opportunities and the incentives.
idk that I've seen anyone say this outright, but the way a lot of people talk about transition care sounds like they believe that doctors invented transsexuality and then started a campaign to convince people they're trans so that they have an excuse to use all their exciting new technology, and then trans people learned we don't have to get surgeries anymore, and anyone who still wants them is regressive and just needs an enlightened person to tell us that we don't need healthcare anymore cause we're #valid

Coerced youth clinic patients into filling out invasive, deeply uncomfortable research questionnaires while not making it clear whether these forms were research or diagnostic forms
Bypassed the privacy rights of 1700 patients to use their medical records for scientific publications without permission, despite having applied for permission and been denied it twice
Practiced sterilization of trans patients as a prerequisite to have their legal gender (read: gender marker on all ID documents) changed until 2016, still has not done anything to compensate the victims
Undermined efforts to establish regional clinics and pushed to minimize their ability to provide any kind of treatment, in an effort to guard their monopoly
Straight up implemented conversion therapy practices to try to dissuade patients from transitioning.
The clinic has the highest patient complaint rate of all branches at Oslo University Hospital, an impressive "achievement" given that they're treating a very small minority group.
This is what gatekeeping in trans healthcare looks like, so shut the fuck up about "but it's good to make sure the patient has actually thought it through tho" because that really is not what that term refers to.

I barely ever see anyone genuinely say "kill all men", and have NEVER seen it taken seriously in any capacity.
I have, however, seen "all women should be subservient to men" repeated as a legitimate statement, worthy of legitimate discourse, pumped into the ears of boys and men through the manosphere. I also see rampant misogyny in the queer community, notably from cis gay men, but not limited to them.
And THEN I see queer men writing posts about how the "villification of men is unacceptable" and "omg how could you EVER say something negative about men we need to be kinder" without ever acknowledging how much so many people just actually fucking hate women.
Like saying "we shouldn't kill all men omg" is so fucking performative. It is a statement that acts like it is countering a point that doesn't exist, and only serves to portray that point as existing.
So for all the "be kind to men" posts out there: are you actually uplifting men? Or are you subtlely telling them to perceive women and feminism as an enemy? You can make posts that are positive about men and masculinity without inventing a feminist strawman to cut down.
