Mistletoe : legends, myth & folklore
written & illustrated by Maryline Poole Adams
This seasonal little book talks about a traditional part of many Midwinter festivals: Mistletoe. It talks about different fact, legends and traditions from around the world, and is illustrated with two color hand cut linoleum block prints. For example, did you know the mistletoe is actually a parasite that grows primarily on oak, but can also be found on willow and poplar trees as well. Think of that next time you find someone to kiss under mistletoe.
“Mistletoe was printed letterpress with 6 pt. Deepdene type, and linoleum blocks, on dampened paper handmade at Barcham Green. Design, printing, binding, linoleum blocks, and marbling hand done by M.P. Adams.“ –Colophon
There do not seem to be any mistletoe related traditions that would be any help with finals, but good luck none the less!

The revolution should not be made within us, but on the outside—and if we make it within ourselves, it is only a way of not doing it on the outside.

Pair of Busts of Silenos
1st century BCE/1st century CE
Roman
“These part-human, part-goat silenoi (sing. silenus) represented the hedonistic desires of mankind released by the magical elixir of the wine god Dionysos. Each figure is made of two pieces that were cast separately and fastened together. The whites of their eyes and their teeth are silver. …These magnificent silenoi once decorated the sides of the curved headboard of an elaborate couch used by diners at the lavish banquets that were popular pastimes for members of high society.”
