“Is there a reason you’re staring?” Jaxon smirked, “You can always come sit by me, if it would make you more comfortable.”

“Oh, I’m sorry, I was just... distracted.” Lia explained quickly. “Well, I wasn’t really staring, but if you want me to, I guess I can.” 

“Be honest, are this glasses too much? Should I give up on 70s fashion or do I actually look decent?”

“They look fine. Maybe another color though, or hairstyle.” Lia said with a small sigh, barely even looking up at him.

“Can someone tell me what went on at the party last night?” Oscar asked as he made his way into the Great Hall. “From what rumours I’ve heard, I am starting to feel like missing the party was a stroke of good luck for me.”

“Halloween lived up to its reputation.” Lia replied, her usual joy nowhere to be seen. What happened that night, it wasn’t all about what she saw, it was about her brother too. “Someone decided it would be fun to make us face our fears.”

He could see that it was starting to get chaotic at the party but this irritating girl wouldn’t leave him the hell alone to go see the outcome of their little plan. Eli rolled his eyes when she turned away, glad to be rid of her but apparently he wasn’t so lucky, she turned back to him before he could leave. Before he could warn her about he was going to hex her if she didn’t clear the fuck out, she began to speak and he raised his eyebrows, his eyes blazing. “I little too late for that, sister dearest.” he said icily. “You thought wrong, didn’t you? I do not love you. And I never will. Turn around and leave before I lose my temper.” 

His words hurt her more than anything ever did in her life. And it just sent the tears rolling down her cheeks. “What have I ever done to you? I never wanted to leave, I never asked to be born this way.” She pleaded, although she was far from convinced this would change anything. But that was all this was about, wasn’t it? Her blood status staining the name, her mother and her fleeing to France for so many years. It had to be about this. “That was not my fault, don’t hate me for something I never wanted.”

“No one’s asked you? Well that’s almost a crime.” He replied incredulously. “I’m not bubblegum if that’s what you were thinking. I’m supposed to be Ringo but I agreed to this when it was their black suits, not Sgt. Pepper.”

“Everyone’s probably too busy with their own dates to bother with me." She laughed, smiling at his costume. “Well, it fits you. Not that you should wear this everyday, you might stand out too much, but it still suits you.”

“Oh, uh, it’s okay. Sorry for mentioning it,” Emmielia said quickly, knowing there were a lot of people around. “Yes, dress is good now.” 

“Oh, no, don’t apologize! I’ll be more careful now.” Lia nodded, smile on her lips. “I would hate it if someone spilled their drink on me.”

“Would you… like to dance with me? Or maybe some punch or something?”

“I was wondering when someone would finally ask me to dance.” Lia grinned, already grabbing his arm to bring him to the dancefloor. “So what are you anyway?”

Her smile quickly faded as she heard her brother’s words. She had hoped he would be glad to see her again, but she was wrong. “I-” She started, but the words caught in her throat. She could feel the tears forming in her eyes, and quickly turned around with the intention to leave. But Lia faced him once more, staring right into his eyes. “I don’t know what I did, but I love you, you’re my brother. And I thought you loved me too.”

“I’m not trying to be rude here, but honestly, it’s the second time you’ve spilled on my dress,” she commented, not even sure if the culprit could hear her among the number of students around. A quick spell took care of the stains on the Dorothy gingham style dress, but still, two times was too many in the scheme of things. “Just… be careful. Okay?” 

Sticking an apologetic smile, Lia held her cup a little tighter. “I’m sorry, I just had a lot of sugar, and punch. And there’s so many people around, I get pushed a lot.” She started rambling before falling silent for a moment, taking a quick glance at the other girl’s dress. “Your dress is fine though, right?”

“Sure, the candy looks good but you’re gonna get sick if you keep eating so much of it.. oh my god, stop and chew before you choke!” Hugo laughed as he watched the other gobble up the sweets faster than humanely possible. 

“Hugo, is this a joke? It’s Halloween, you have to eat as many as you can!” Lia said with a small laugh before shoving more sweets in her mouth. “Plus, it’s barely any sugar at all.”
