Ā Ā Ā Ā it dawns on him as he stands there in the chorale, harmonizing with his fellow trainees, that he has never spent christmas at home.Ā his family arenāt big on holidays, though they do host an annual family dinner---one that ezra has always neglected in lieu of wet parties with friends.Ā to him, itās not a big deal;Ā itās just another family gathering, isnāt it?Ā apparently not, according to the other trainees who wistfully dwell on how they canāt go home this year -- too far, no money.
Ā Ā Ā Ā admittedly, he does not understand.Ā admittedly, it pisses him off.Ā at least onceĀ every practice session, someoneĀ would mention their mother, their father, their siblings, uncles, aunts, cousins---and they would speak so highly of them, dotting on how supportive they are, how kind.Ā itās not that his own family arenāt supportive, itās not that theyāre not kind, far from that, but theyāre apathetic.
Ā Ā Ā Ā you wonāt call them?Ā he recalls a trainee asking him.
Ā Ā Ā Ā āthey wouldnāt care.ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā and so he stands there, singing miracles of decemberĀ with no one in mind.Ā the trainee next to him has already started to tear up.Ā a past lover, he assumes.Ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā āŖĀ before, i didn't understand how precious love was, oh Ā Ā Ā Ā āŖĀ i thought when it ended, everything would be just fine
Ā Ā Ā Ā the next line is right now, iām trying to change myself to want you, but he hears himself sing right now, iām trying to change myself to go home.
Ā Ā Ā Ā and ever so suddenly, ever so slowly, faces begin to appear.
