i find it so funny when fic authors try to write a gen jason/tim dynamic but can't help the weird tension they have going on. it's like the characters are alive and no matter how much you circle around it they WILL interact like they're about to kiss
One time, Dick walked in on Tim training at the cave. He was practicing a spin kick and a jump spin kick while wearing 5 inch heels. To this day Dick still thinks it was a dream.
Some other time, Damian was walking Titus at the park and saw Tim do a kickflip on his skateboard wearing black stilettos, when he landed perfectly, a blond guy celebrated next to him. Damian never told a soul about it.
Jason would recognize that waist everywhere (not in a weird way, in the sense that-), so he knows the beautiful woman catching looks all night is Red Robin. She's wearing a long red dress and diamond adorned heels that might cost the same as a few of his organs. He doesn't approach Tim all night, he's not supposed to be there, but when Tim's mission clearly goes south he helps him get to the roof and watches, just a bit impressed, as he runs and jumps out of the building without ever taking the heels off.
Bruce walked past Tim's office at the WE building once to see him talking to Tam. He was sitting on his table while she showed him something on a tablet, what caught Bruce off-guard was his outfit. He was wearing a dark grey suit, no tie, but beige high heels sparkled on his feet, he didn't look uncomfortable or bothered by it and no one seemed impressed, so Bruce concluded it was a normal thing to happen. Huh.
None of them asks questions, in this family it's better if you don't.

au where tim mentions the fact that he has a boyfriend exactly once around bruce and never says anything about it again. the world's greatest detective thinks he might have figured out who said boyfriend is and confronts tim at the dinner table.
"When are you bringing Jason to dinner?"
"Why would I bring Jason to dinner?!" Tim replies, frowning.
"We would like to meet him as your boyfriend"
Tim blinks at him once. twice. then gets up and leaves.
"I already know Todd" Damian mutters to himself, not really interested in the conversation.
A few minutes of silence goes by, then Tim comes back to the dining room with Superboy by his side.
"Kon, my boyfriend." it's all he says before leaving again.
Dick tries to hide his laugh with a cough, but it comes out strangled and weird.
"Why would he be dating Jason?" he finally asks Bruce who's suspiciously quiet.
And quiet he keeps. Maybe he's embarrassed or maybe he's just processing the fact that his kid is dating Clark's kid.
The bar is just as crowded as it always is on the first day of a new cycle. The kids haven't met anyone yet, so its a good way for the Top Gun instructors to get some real first impressions on who they'll be dealing with.
That, of course, if Maverick's idiotic of a brother hadn't shown up for "just a drink" after being M.I.A for a year. It's not like no one had ever seen twin brothers before, and Mav has to give his friends their thank yous, they only glanced over his direction once and decided it was none of their business.
Mav loves Ethan he really does. Even with the secrets and the disappearance and the showing up out of nowhere, he still loved him. But, dear God, since when does he talk this much?
"And I might leave today so we should..." Ethan stopped himself in the middle of the sentence. "Who is that?"
Across the bar sat no one other than Iceman Kazansky himself, sipping on a glass of straight vodka, a girl by his side and his aviators hiding well the fact that he was bored out of his mind. Pretty much like the day Mav met him.
"Iceman. He's an instructor too" Mav answered, not paying much attention. "He got the trophy, but I think I would've won if..."
"Ok, you're a sore loser. We get it," Ethan interrupted him. "He single?"
Mav blinked twice at him. He looked at his brother, then at Ice, then at his glass of whiskey trying to figure out if he was being drugged.
"I'm sorry?"
"Iceman" Ethan repeated with his best Mav impression. "Is he single?"
"I don't know," Maverick answered, almost offended by this conversation. "I don't think he swings your way"
"Are you kidding me? Look at him."
And Mav did. Look at him, that is. Ice was slowly nodding at something the blonde girl by his side was saying, clearly disliking the chat even tho the girl was very pretty. And Mav couldn't tell exactly — because of the aviators —, but he was pretty sure Ice's eyes were locked on his. No, not his. Ethan's.
Then, in a move that made Maverick want to toss himself off a window, Ice removed his glasses, proving that he was indeed looking at Ethan. And if this wasn't enough, Ethan had the nerve to wink at him. Wink at a navy officer — an elite one, inside a navy bar. Maverick was going to pass out any minute now.
"Please don't get him discharged," Pete asked his brother, already tired of that conversation. "Actually, don't get me discharged"
"Don't worry, brother of mine." Ethan's smile was the first sign that nothing good would've happened next. "No one has to know"
He got up his feet, downed the rest of his drink, shot a look at Ice's direction, and made his way out of the bar. Maverick thought that was it, that nothing had to happen, that his brother would just vanish again, and if he was lucky, he would hear from him again in a year or so. But when Ice dismissed the girl, got a couple of dollar bills on the counter, and followed the same path Ethan had just walked through, Mav decided that luck would never be on his side.
My favorite trope is a tall scary blonde who ends up falling in love with his shortstack mouthy brunette who was once his biggest competition but ended up being exactly what he was missing his entire life.
