    “I mean…I can get home–if there’s a will…there will always be a way.” 

“So, that’s a no,” Lexa pointed out. “When you’re ready, let me know, I can call you an Uber. Better safe than sorry, you know?” 

“Yeah, it’s great there. I like the west coast much better though.” The west coast was father away from their family. “Oh yeah! I’ve heard a few stories about AJ and Maverick’s college antics. I’m still catching up on everything though.” Jack hesitated when she mentioned getting drinks, but ultimately responded, “I’m just going to stick to my water. I need to drive home later.” 

“West coast is the best coast, or so they say,” Lexa chuckled, taking a sip of her drink. “I keep telling them they need to write a book about their college antics. I mean honestly with the majority of the shit my brother put AJ through, it would be a best seller,” she laughed lightly, shaking her head. “Oh, don’t worry about it. I’m glad there’s variety here too because I cannot go the whole night drinking with everything that needs to get done within the next few weeks. Anyways, AJ also told me about your wild family reunion here between you and him and then you’re also related to Juliette, right?” 

    Nicole giggled and shakes her head, “Nope…I am perfectly content with this–I actually don’t remember what I’m drinking, but it’s pretty fruity.” 

“Looks like a hurricane cocktail. Those are pretty good...and deadly in their own right,” Lexa mused as she took a sip of her water. “You’ve got a ride home, I presume?” 

“Oh, fuck off.” He rolled his eyes, although the corners of his lips curled up into a grin. “My usual place had some shitty local band playing.” It wasn’t that he minded supporting local groups but the one playing hadn’t been great.

“I would if I could,” Lexa chuckled, motioning for the man to sit next to her. “Sad. You know I feel like ever since a few certain bands and artists brought down the house at La Playa nearly every person in Santa Monica woke up and decided they wanted to suddenly become a musician like them and attempt to make it big--and not all of them are great,” She mused to her best friend. “I’m glad you got out of there when you could.” 

“Dad asked me to grab him some lunch so I thought I’d bring you some, too.”  The woman flashed her sister a grin as she walked into the room, holding up a bag of food. “Besides, I can come visit you if I want to. It’s been too long since we’ve seen each other.” 

“You’re a saint--what did you bring by the way?” The brunette asked with a curious look at her sister. “Well, you’re not wrong. It’s about time you came over to visit. I almost had to send Mav leading the calvary,” She teased her sister with a laugh. “I’ve got a good hour and a half right now, pull up a chair. Did you bring food for yourself?”

He pulled out the empty barstool glancing at the person next to him. Daniel didn’t say anything until he had a beer in his hand though. “Oh, uh…nobody’s sitting here are they?” It wasn’t like he cared one way or another, if he was being honest.

“Yeah, my best friend’s sitting here, sorry,” Lexa teased with a shit-eating grin. “Fancy running into you at this bar, of all bars. I thought you said it was too stuffy here.” 

“Just when I was there, ‘cause that’s the kind of luck I have,” they joked. “Or maybe it’s still going on. I don’t know, I haven’t checked the weather.” Jack shook their head at her question regarding AJ’s embarrassing sunburn story. “No he did not! I need you to tell me every embarrassing story about AJ you can muster up. I missed out on years of this!” 

“I guess New York has a bit of a soft spot for you if it decided to heat up the way it did,” Lexa teased with a light laugh. “There’s a heatwave all throughout most of the 48, however and the droughts are killer.” It was then the brunette started to realize that if she didn’t stop herself her work talk would start kicking in between having to track droughts and switching to solar power for certain functions. “Oh my god, it was this whole thing. As you know your cousin and my brother have been friends since college and the stories I’ll hear about AJ are ridiculous. Let’s pull up some drinks and I’ll tell you all about the terrible two and you can catch me up on New York,” She motioned to Jack with a grin. 

     “Cauliflower is also a flower–Broccoli and cauliflower’s are the only vegetables that are considered flowers,” She responded, “Which is funny because can you imagine someone coming into your place and is like…what flower is that and you’re just like…broccoli.” 

“Interesting. I mean it would make sense as to why they’re called flowers because they look like little trees,” Lexa pointed out taking a sip of her drink. “If someone asked what flower was that and I had to say broccoli, I’d be a little concerned for them at first, truthfully,” She let out a sigh and then looked over at the blonde. “Did you need water?” It wasn’t everyday Lexa was kind to Nicole, especially at the fact that she completely started an uproar to get her own nose broken, but she also couldn’t leave her alone drunk and defenseless. Men were grimy.
