Steeples fingers. I really don't like just awkwardly smooshing characters into a different universe so if I'm gonna Put Hail Mary In Blood Ocean my options are either Other Side Of The Rapture style where everything is the same except Grace is a school teacher in a world where humans colonized Mars and the astrophage situation is somehow tied to the bizarre anomaly where all of humanity's space stations and ships disappeared (which would further tie into his fear and reluctance to go on the mission as well as add an element of anxiety to him while he's actively out there, because I imagine people would be reluctant to go slingshotting themselves into the void after the last batch of people just fucking vanished) so Grace and Rocky, in their quest to save the stars, find their way to the place where Iron Lung takes place and meet Simon there.
OR I could just full-on stick Grace, Rocky AND Adrian in the Iron Lung universe. We only learn about two factions in Iron Lung -- Eden the Accelerationists and C.O.I the Fascists -- but we don't actually know for sure if those are the Only Two. We could say that Simon, Rocky, and Adrian are a trio of brilliant scientists from an extremely small third faction, headed by Ava Stratt, who like the C.O.I are working to find resources to help rebuild humanity but they're going about it in a very different way. They still... make some morally fucked-up choices such as forcing Grace on a suicide mission but they're overall way less crappy than either of the other two groups. They also have better resources and infrastructure in place to keep their people fed and healthy. As a result, they live in constant fear of being overtaken by any of the other factions who might want to kick down their door and take everything they have.
Ricardo "Rocky" Ortiz is this short king brick of a genius engineer who was a child prodigy and got sick of being abducted as a kid (because geniuses are in short supply at the end of the world and Everybody wanted him to work for them) so his solution was just to become too fucking big to kidnap. This man is sturdy. Dense. The sheer boulder-like buff-ness of this dude cannot be overstated.
Adrian is his very tall nonbinary s/o who is also some kind of brilliant scientist and who Rocky met back when he was living wherever he was before he met Grace. Adrian and Rocky are the soul survivors of their previous station, which was like idk caught in a fight between Eden and the C.O.I or maybe just attacked by Eden and fed to the soil either way they were found and rescued by Grace who brought them back to Stratt and they became the Three Musketeers. They've all imprinted on each other like ducklings, do NOT separate them.
So when Eva decides their need for resources has gotten bad enough to risk drawing the attention of the C.O.I by investigating some of those creepy ass moons, Rocky and Adrian volunteer. Grace does not, but they don't know that at the time.
Aaaand they find Simon in the Blood Ocean. Somehow. Idk all of this is super rough and needs a lot of work but. See my vision.

You do not know what squicks other people. "Squick" is not a category of elements, it is a description of a reaction.
Squick is literally a personal thing, you literally cannot know what squicks another person.
Same goes for triggers, by the way. You can't guarantee something is trigger-free because literally anything can be a trigger because the human brain can be weird like that sometimes.
No no, actually there's a perfect way to write an absolutely squick free fanfic! Plenty of writers do it successfully every day!

Okay, for anyone ACTUALLY unsure and wanting to learn: "squick" is an old fandom term. It means something that grosses you out or makes you deeply uncomfortable, but doesn't give you as intense negative reactions as a trigger. They are incredibly personal, though often times, just like with triggers, you can tag relatively common squicks.
For me, mpreg is a squick. It makes me deeply uncomfortable, but it doesn't send me into a panic spiral, a deep depression, or make me angry like reading about eye trauma does.
My cousins in Lannister, ‘squick’ didn’t even originate in fandom.
Also useful to note that ‘squick’ is specifically used to mean “this isn’t for me, personally” without adding a moral judgement to it. A simple easy way to say ‘no, thank you but you do you’. Unlike ‘cringe’ which has negative connotations. Squicks are also more than just uncomfortable.

First known usage of "squick" was in 1991. It's not some new term that was made up for this post.
It's a portmanteau of Squeamish and Ick.

I think the most charitable interpretation of this is that people connect to characters that are like them, and that the experiences of Blackness is so alien to them that the White characters are the only ones that White people connect with. Combine that with the fact that Tumblr is so White as a platform, and you get this issue.
It’s still bad and racist, but it is understandable. People should still do better though. (I’m not trying to justify, I’m trying to come up with an explanation)

InsNe that dishwashers are more efficient and easier than just washing them manually but they also use less water. It’s a win win situation
They ALSO sterilize dishes, due to operating at a far higher temperature than human hands could ever tolerate. It's a win every way.
