Billionaire Boys Club X Soulection Radio
For quite some time now I've known about the pending collaboration between streetwear titan Billionaire Boys Club and world renowned Beats 1 station Soulection Radio. I've also known that this collaboration would start a small radio tour that would begin with an event in-store at BBC's flagship in SoHo. This passed Thursday I was scheduled to work; while uncommon meant that I'd be within striking distance location wise to pull up and do some photogenic sleuthing of the event in progress. Soulection radio if you're not familiar is a weekly broadcast and music collective that is LA-based for the most part but the groups founder; Joe Kay travels the world playing sounds from all corners and compiles his findings into an on average 2 hour radio broadcast on Apple Music's Beats 1. This collaboration uses the type face that BBC is known for and expands on it by using the word Soulection as the subject the font. The stations logo is this very simple eye logo that has the letter S running through the eyes pupil, this graphic is also utilized throughout the collaborative merch; which at this time maybe sold out.
As for the actual event, like any other BBC event there were your regulars; myself included, some people I attended high school with, previous staff members, friends from other shops in the neighborhood, the Soulection crew that could make it; Joe Kay included. Kirk Knight surprised me by making a cameo appearance as well. Drink sponsors included Heineken and Ciroc. Andre Power had a great set in-store and was really the only person I saw on the controller for the majority of the night. As time goes on what it means to truly collaborate will change I feel but as long as theres good people, good sounds, and something that's bigger than all of us to work towards I think we'll all be okay! I'm super proud of this collaboration and a big shout out goes to Franchesca Walker for putting me on to Soulection Radio; she's a San Diego based creative who threw the station on one day in my presence and I've never looked back, Thanks!
