A railroad worm is a larviform female adult of a beetle of the genus Phrixothrix, characterized by the possession of two different colors of bioluminescence. Railroad worms “switch off” their yellow/green bioluminescence when hunting for millipedes, leaving only their red glow, which millipedes cannot see.
