brooklyn-reynolds:
Brooklyn knew that it was wrong to take this all out on Casper. It wasnât his fault. He was the only person Brooklyn thought she could go to for advice. She knew that he was bisexual and probably felt the same as her at some point in his life. That didnât make it any easier to talk about it. Her eyes were sad as she watched him talk about his experience, very similar to how she was feeling right now.
She stood with her back to him as he placed his hands on her shoulders. She tensed up at first, but soon relaxed in his light touch. Using the sleeve of her sweater, Brooklyn wiped her eyes, silently thanking herself for coming to him without any make-up on her face. She closed her eyes as she listened to his wise words and soft voice. âI knowâŚâ she whispered. Of course a single relationship wouldnât make her happy right away, but it would help her take a step towards happiness considering how happy Astrid made her feel. The blonde turned around, taking both of Casperâs hands and holding them in between their bodies. âI love you, Casper. As a friend, of course.â She smiled a bit. âYouâre so wise and choose your words so carefully. It really helps me, you know? Not right away, but it makes me realize that this is a choice I have to make myself. That I have to be the one to decide what comes next. Whatever that step might be, good or bad. All I have to do is actually take that step.â She gently squeezed his hands. âYou being my friend is part of my happiness, too. God, Iâm so glad to have you as the Raoul to my Christine. Thereâs nobody else in this world I would rather kiss on stage every nightâŚ.exceptâŚAstridâŚâ she whispered Astridâs name, though Casper had probably already realized this had been about Astrid all along. âAm I making it weird now? I probably shouldnât have said that.â Brooklyn scrunched her nose up, shaking her head. âBut hopefully you know what I mean. And now I should just shut up and hug you.â She slowly leaned in for a tight hug, her chin resting on his shoulder as she spoke softly close to his ear . âThank you. I owe you a night out. Just the two of us. We can see a show or something. Whatever you like. Just, thank you.â
Casper was a little relieved when Brooklynâs tense body started to relax under his touch. He rubbed her shoulders gently, encouraging her. But when she turned around, he released her, not wanting to limit her movements in any way. He knew that he hated being restrained when he was upset. âI love you, too,â he said. âAs a friend.â He mostly echoed it because if she felt the need to say it, she probably felt the need to hear it as well. When she complimented him, he laughed a bit, nervous. âWell, I donât have it all together or anything. Not like I need to tell you that. But Iâm glad I can help, whatever way I can.â
When she said Astridâs name, then promptly made a face, he smiled kindly. âWell, I sort of already figured. But it felt rude to assume.â He reached out and hugged her, cupping the back of her head with one hand. Her voice at his ear was ... intimate, in a weird way. But it didnât make him feel like he thought he probably should feel. Probably because she just got done confessing her love for someone else. He felt a weird emotion that was oddly close to relief. âYouâre the best Christine a guy could ask for. And Iâm not just saying that because your understudy is a little intimidating,â he said, trying to get a rise out of her. âYou donât owe me anything. But youâre welcome. Come talk to me about this stuff any time, okay?â
