I don't know why but the phrasing of this rubs me the wrong way. I really don't know why. I understand the sentiment but this just feels off

It's that it still reads as american exeptionalism, just the negative version. 'Woe is me, no one else could understand how uniquely difficult it is to be an American living in such harsh conditions and having to feel guilty about it too!'

You could equally cherry pick issues the listed countries were bad about (japan has pretty strict abortion laws for example, including required spousal consent) and say that the us just sent humans around the moon.

#even if they dont agree with right wing rhetoric americans find it hard to shake the feeling that their experiences must be unique #boiling the post down its 'these lesser countries can do good things when it should obviously be america'#isnt it incredulous and unbelievable that we would stoop as low as evil china!!
