[ID: Art of Adèle Werther and Lucy Clarsen from Les Revenants, based on an excerpt from an episode of The Silt Verses.
At the top, there is a portrait drawing of Adele.
She is a pale woman in her 30's with short black hair, and is wearing a white wedding dress. Her expression is blank and distant, looking unhappy but too exhausted to really do anything. Text, in cursive, reads: "The promised bride says, "But either way I become a vessel - for your purposes or for theirs."
Below is a portrait drawing of Lucy. She is a younger woman with long, styled, light brown hair, wearing a full face of makeup, and wearing a similarly lacy white dress underneath a denim jacket. Lucy's teeth are distinctly pointed and her eyes reflect the light like an animal. She is absolutely head to toe dripping wet. Her expression is attempting to be reassuring, but comes across moreso unnerving, Lucy being visibly giddy with excitement. Text reads: 'The revenant tells her, and her smile is kind, "You are a vessel, no more than that; to be anything else would be in excess of your nature."
The bottom image is a full body shot of both women. Lucy, still dripping wet, takes both of Adèle's hands as if to pull her onwards and looks deeply into her eyes. Adele stands limply. There are visible self harm scars on Adèle's wrists. Text reads: 'She extended a sodden hand. "Come. Bear me a gift, and I shall leave you something in return."’

ID: Several artworks of characters from Les Revenants. Image 1 is art of Lucy Clarsen from Les Revenants. She is standing in a crowd of dark, translucent shadowy figures. She stands on her tip toes to tightly hug one of them, hiding her face. It is unclear whether the figure she is hugging is physically there or not.
Image two is art of Madame Garrel from Les Revenants, two simple uncoloured drawings. One is a stylised screenshot redraw of her face; she stares off screen and looks shocked and upset. Another is a full body drawing of her standing idly, looking timid. To the bottom left, there is a screenshot from the show, showing a child-like drawing of a woman - her - looking down, appearing extremely distressed and pulling at her hair. A crying child reaches towards her.
Image three is another artwork of Madeleine - aka Madame Garrel - this time a painting, showing her kneeling on the floor in front of a floral dining table, an array of glasses of water, several unopened pill containers and a bowl positioned on top. Her eyes are closed and her hands are clasped in prayer; she looks sad and tired. The room is dark and cold, only lit by the window. Text in cursive reads ‘I wonder who I’d be if all of these bad things didn’t happen to me’.
Image four is an excerpt from an animatic. It is a drawing of Lucy on her hands and knees eating a fresh deer carcass. She is covered in blood and her face is fully inside of it, her hand half bracing herself against it’s hide and half seeming to caress the corpse. Text - song lyrics - reads ‘KEEP YOU CLOSE’.
Image five is a redraw of the cover art for episode 23 of the podcast Hello From The Hallowoods, with Serge Garrel’s hand instead of Rick Rounds’. His hand is limply outstretched, and is covered in severe bruising. His nails are sharp and claw-like. The skin of his wrist appears to be entirely splitting open from the hand. There are numerous self harm scars across his wrist, beginning to turn red and unhealthy looking, and with the lacerations following along them. In the background there are nine distinct knives positioned in a rough pentagram shape behind his hand, uncoloured and shaded in pencil.
Image six is another animatic excerpt, being a portrait drawing of Lucy tinting her head reaching to something off screen. Her eyes are wide and tentative, and she has a half-smile on her face, as if entirely lost in the action. Text - more lyrics from the same song - reads ‘THE LOVE I CARRY’.
Image seven is based on the music video for the song ‘KILLED BY ANGEL’. It shows Serge Garrel and Madeleine Garrel. He sits with arms crossed over his knees and his hood pulled up, hiding his face. Madeleine sits beside him, leaning over to look down at him, smiling. Text reads: ‘My poor little baby / Thrown into the darkness in tatters / Bury such an ugly body / Follow the guidance of Heaven:’. There is a close up of Madeleine’s face - she is dead, and blood leaks from her mouth, nose and eyes. Text reads: “EVEN GOD WILL ABANDON YOU”
[ID: Several art pieces of Serge Garrel from Les Revenants. He is a tan white man with short dark curly hair, of average height and a muscular build, wearing practical clothing that often appears slightly too small for him. His expression often seems vacant.
Drawing one is a loose screenshot redraw, showing Serge standing in the dark, looking tense and slightly shaken, lit partially by car headlights and putting a hand up to shield his eyes. His shirt’s front is drenched in blood, and he is leaning on his rifle as he walks. His eyes are lit up, reflecting the light like an animal. A black wolf is painted standing behind him, barely visible against the dark background.
Drawing two is a recreation of an iconic image of Laura Palmer from Twin Peaks, depicting Serge in an underpass with visible graffiti in the background. He is wearing a black hoodie with the hood pulled up, casting his face in shadow, hands and face covered in blood - not his own. His expression is vacant and mocking, with his eyes once again reflecting the light like an animal and his fingers drawn to resemble claws. There are self harm scars visible on Serge’s wrist. He holds his hands up in a symbol, and text reads ‘Meanwhile.’
Drawing three is a simple portrait drawing, a loose uncoloured screenshot redraw. Serge looks at something in the distance with a blank expression, lifting the strap of his rifle on his shoulder with one hand.
Drawing four depicts Serge on his hands and knees, crouched over a deer carcass, face turned away from the camera but the lower half clearly drenched in blood. A boot from a figure off-screen leans on his back and cocks a shotgun at the back of his head. He is in the woods, and it is night. Serge is dressed in his serial killer outfit - black hoodie - and pulls the wound in the deer’s side open with one hand.
Drawing 5 is a screenshot redraw of the characters as furries. Léna Séguret, depicted as a tall, ginger and white rabbit furry with long, curly ginger hair, wearing a hospital gown, stands in the foreground. She looks through a handful of clothes and smirks, saying “Who’s were these, your ex’s?’
Serge, depicted as a dark grey wolf, stands further back, glancing to the side with an uneasy expression, hands awkwardly behind his back. He responds plainly: ‘They were my mother’s.’
They are standing in a room filled with taxidermy animals.

at first i found the us adaptation and watched it and realised it was cancelled after 1st season so i looked for the french one and now im on the final episode and i still didn't understand shit??
The thing is that LR isn’t a show that explains stuff, it merely hints and implies and everything is open to viewers interpretation.
Initially there was an art house film from 2004 with the same concept but a bit different realization. It was rather slow and boring and the allegories were all over the place – there were themes of grief that buries the griever alive, there was an allegory of immigration and the government abusing power or something. The 2012 show is kind of a remake of that movie but with a better execution. They mostly focused on the themes of grieving and the need for the living to let go of their dead and move on. Also with a mix of folk tales/legends and an imagery to classic paintings, namely Dore and homage to Dante.
Victor seems to be something similar to Nain Rouge – a harbinger of doom. He’s there to witness tragedies, but he can’t prevent them, and if we go by what happened to the baby of Simon and Adele, it’s likely that he’s one of these children conceived by a living woman and a dead loved one. And Lucy is someone who delivers them to be raised by humans and also handles the dead. It’s not very clear about Lucy, so open to interpretations. Victor this part mythical creature is also a child, who craved for a family but couldn’t have one, because he wasn’t really human. When his adoptive father had a stroke and died of old age his grief brought him back, but also activated the power of grieving of all the people in the town who couldn’t move on. That’s why Camille returned first from the whole bus of children – her family couldn’t move on, while the others did, even had new children or expected one.
Chloe was shown to be adopted by the Segurets – Camille’s family who finally made peace with her death and let her be with the dead. Well, the parents at least, because Camille will always be a shadow to her living twin.
Adele died in the woods near the cave, and cave is a metaphor for the gates to the Underworld, like in Divine Comedy they traveled through the hell and emerged to the gates of heaven where they had their holy wedding.
Lucy was trying to get the dead back to the Underworld or whatever where they belonged and the dead listened to her because they also knew that they don’t belong in the world of the living.
More meta, gathered since the show premiered can be found here and here.
If you need to clear more stuff or want to talk about the show, always happy to talk. :)
If we talk about post-rock we can't exclude Mogwai. And if we talk about Mogwai we can't forget to mention their various collaborations in soundtracks of series and films. In this case, "Les Revenants" conveys an air of melancholy, eerieness and unease, as if there's something that functions as the kick to unlock negative memories. And indeed, if you watch the French series "Les Revenants" you will realize that the return of the dead (and no, they are not zombies, and I promise this isn't spoiler) only opens old wounds. A spectacular album, for a spectacular series, set in a small town with a tragic history.

do i have any french followers or mutuals that know where i can find les revenants (with english subs!!!) season 2. i don’t care whether i gotta download or just watch it online, i’ll do anything.
(it’s not available for me on any streaming service, so before you mention netflix, amazon prime etc. i’ve already checked 🙈)
Les Revenants still has one of the most beautiful, completely wordless soundtracks I’ve ever listened to. Like I don’t know what feelings I’m having but it’s a lot of them.
