On a whim I decided to check out a yesteryear's murder-mystery cdrama "The Truth Within" starring Luo Yunxi, because I remember @lunarriviera gushing about it at some point. And I thought I'd just watch an episode or two just to feel out the vibes and then drop it and remove from my bookmarks, like I did with Gong Jun's similarly named "The Truth" (our vibes simply weren't matching), and -
- it's really good? And I'm enjoying it a lot??...
And idk, maybe I'm just on a roll with mystery genre at the moment, as I'm also neck-deep into "Cases Between Us", but the writing and acting are solid, cinematography is great, the murders are bizarre, and there's something that really pulls you in almost immediately. I really like it!
Basically -
Because, yeah, the series is pretty good.
And I didn't bother writing about it myself since, you know, it gave me nothing to complain about.
But I totally agree that the cases are engagind and main character dynamics is compelling.
And the ending didn't even suck.
So OP definitely deserves an extra note for such a careful and detailed review đ¤
Initiate Fandom Switch: [OK] [cancel]
Was about to say âthatâs it, Iâm now done with âWord of Honourâ for good,â when I suddenly got an idea how to make my pointless Jiuxiao fic not so pointless.
But it would make it into a pre-canon fix-it: after which canon, technically, doesnât need to happen.
I can still attach a hint at a âdifferent first meetingâ, but Iâm definitely not up to a full rewrite, so WKX wonât appear in the story even as a brighter-future cameo; and, without the major pairing in the tags, chances are no one will ever see it.
On the other hand, the âYa Sheâ fic Iâd put on backburner is also pointless canon-compliant; and, given how niche the fandom is, it probably wonât have all that many target readers either.
Also, itâs kind of too early to rewatch âYa Sheâ, but, if the idea persists, Iâll eventually have to rewatch âWord of Honourâ. So, the question remains, is it worth switching gears when Iâm already on roll?
What do you think?
Write it already
maybe later
Chapter Three
So, writing the fic left me pretty much done with the main characters, but unexpectedly fond of the kids.
A [spy] works from sun to sun, but a [big brother's] job is never doneđ
Was going to make a joke about my fic, but, as it turns out, neither of the "little brothers" give me the correct Jiuxiao vibe.
The âCanât I just go kill whoever made you cry instead of, ew, hugging?â part is spot-on, though.
And itâs really funny how someone paid all of them to tell the exact same story twice.

Reblog and put in the tags the book that is physically nearest to you at this moment.

Re: both "Wait, that's out protagonist?",
and the perfect hero being awkwardly relatable,
and irking me into writing a not-very-promising fic.
And just a nice picture, overall đ¤

Part 7: All in all
Looking back, I didnât dislike âWord of Honourâ per se. It would be more accurate to say that to me âWord of Honourâ was one of those works of fiction that would be perfectly fine if they just â

Part 5: Till the bitter end
As Iâve said, I hadnât actually read the novel till later and, therefore, hadnât been expecting a happy ending.

you can tell a lot about a person by who their first fictional crush was. it also explains every fictional crush theyâve had since
who was yours? iâll go first: mine was batman :x
Mine was Maurice Gerald, actually: I wonder if anyone remembers who that is.
I donât think itâs all that telling. Pretty sure thatâs just because it was my first piece of grown-up fiction, which I never went back to after the initial three back-to-back readings, and never truly got into any other works by the same author. Â

Unlike the novel, where perspective switches between chapters, the series â well, the relationship part of it â is largely from Zishuâs point of view, so it isnât explicitly spelled out, but, when you think about it,

As the matter of fact, the Nails only make sense in metaphysical âDo you want freedom *that* much?â way.
As a way to keep the members of Tian Chuang from leaving and/or ensure their silence those would be pretty useless. Â

Part 2: ghost of Mary-Sue
IDK if I was expected to know from somewhere that âGhost Valleyâ is just a pompous name for a bad neighbourhood, but, between the way he was introduced and endless âmonsters hiding in plain sightâ comments, I spent the first twenty or so episodes genuinely believing Wen Kexing was some kind of a hundreds-year-old spirit, or demon, or smth.
