Project 5:
For this last project I really wanted to do a dance. Iāve always be interested in dance and how body movements can create emotion and tell a story. I wanted to show a story of self empowerment. A story of how you can be with someone and be so in-sync with them than you start to be the same person, and loose sight of the real you. You can be so depended on someone you become unsteady, until you find your strength to leave them. I put this dance together with my friend, hope you enjoy it.
Great video! I love the environment and dancing. Great work!

Performance art
Artist statement: šwhat are balloons supposed to do on their days off? š This project was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed getting in front of an audience. Unfortunately, my idea had to change last minute due to problems with my "whimsical clouds." However, I still think that my project had that sense of whimsy and I really enjoyed the varied responses I received. If I were to do this project again, I would probably change my location. I really wanted to do it where there were a massive amount of people. Unfortunately it was only 11 degrees, so the largest population was at metro. I also would have used pastel colored balloons. Doing this performance piece made me want to work more as a performance artist. Luckily being in the fashion business, I get to work with performance art quite a bit. The real project, wasn't the photos or the gif, but was more about being there to see it in person. However, I had a lot of fun getting to model as a balloon as most people will never do that! I also loved how some of the photos turned out.

Response
Performance art is a very interesting and very traditional art form. It has given a way for artists to express themselves or their message in an unconventional way. Marina Abramovic is an artists who does this and is often asked, āhow is this art?ā When people see her perform they are left confused and wondering what they watched or what they experienced. I think that her performances are art because it invokes questions. She uses a sense of self and humanistic relatability by performing in front of an audience. Then sheāll provide a strong contrast to that relation, and intentionally oppose pre existing understandings. She breaks boundaries that most people would never dare to do. As seen in her piece, Silent Sitting, she sits across from strangers and stares āintoā them. People rarely stare strangers in the eyes and to sit across from someone and do that creates questions of why and misunderstanding. However, being apart of something that makes you question your reality and question what you believe is very artistic. Her impact that she is able to make through silent performance is very inspiring. I hope that one day Iām able to impact people the way she does, even if no one understands it.
Another interesting viewpoint on performance art comes from Roselee Goldberg. I appreciate that the difficulty to judge performance art in terms of fine art is pointed out. It is really difficult to judge this type of art, in relation to fine art, because it doesn't use the same rules as most other fine art mediums. I think this allows performance art to be so versatile and it should be respected as a medium because of how it pushes boundaries. I also enjoy and agree that performance art and all other art is a reinterpretation of the past, done in the present moment, to inspire future interpretation. It's a cycle that should be respected by all artists in every medium
Vanishing and Becoming
Shadow of the Sun
Artist statement- Proj. 4: Vanishing and Becoming
For this project, I really tried to tie the aspect of something vanishing and becoming into every aspect. Starting with the song, I chose a song that metaphorically referenced an eclipse by actually references a blockage of light and a hope of return. I had the flower blossom and then fold back up. As well as used a few editing techniques that helped the overall video become and then vanish again. Honestly, I had a really difficult time with this project. I feel as though I really lacked inspiration for this project and on top of that I had a difficult time trying to make art with Adobe Premiere. I don't feel that I could portray what I wanted to portray without a bit more experience. Unfortunately, I think my lack of inspiration shows through on this project and I am pretty disappointed.Ā
(could also be the feeling in the air.... after the election...)
If i could take this project further and make it longer, it might be interesting to do this same concept with multiple different flowers as well as use the whole song.Ā
PROJECT #4
Song: āMan of the Yearā by Thee Cool Cats
I was excited for this project because Iāve been doing a lot of video art on my own lately and learning how to VJ. I chose the song because itās tempo is 120 beats per minute, which makes changing effects to the beat much easier.
this is amazing and I would love to know how you did this

Beautiful
Reading #4
Projection: Vanishing and Becoming I really enjoy how this reading draws a direct line between a projection vanishing and becoming. It implies that a projection is both vanishing and becoming at the same time. I also really enjoy reading about the progress of art in terms of projection. I agree with the reading, that art has been used to create an impact that has a meaning larger than yourself, creating immortal meanings and therefore an immortal self. One thing in the reading however, that I did not connect with was the distinction of subject matter. It stated that in order for it to be a projection the actual subject matter must be absent. Personally, I think that the projection is still the subject matter, no matter how much it is distorted or abstract. I think the essence of the subject matter is the projection that you see, however, that same essence is what you would receive if the subject was shown or if you were in person. Time and Motion Time and motion in art are extremely important. The give extra dimensions to the understanding of any given artwork. I think that motion in art always will imply time. The motion, whether it be actual or implied, helps give the work a sense of movement and direction. As an artist thinking about the movement of a piece, the way something moves can really affect how the audience perceives the piece. The meaning would change whether it moved naturally, mechanically, or by the audience/artist. Likewise, I think time will always imply motion as well. However, I think that time, in art, can also represent the absence of motion. Time, being actual or implied, has the same impact on art as does motion. Again, when an artists is thinking of the time in a piece, how they choose to represent that is also very important to the meaning. The repetition of a segment of time or even the evolution of time and it's affect on the art can change the meaning very easily.
