Is the writing good? Is it fun? Do people like it? Good! Keep doing that thing friends.

Does it fit the lore? Does it not have any lore? Does it coexist along side the lore? Cool! Even better!

Don’t hold it against the rest of us by viewing the entire community as a frightening place because select individuals don’t understand what they are doing when they post their opinions on a public forum - or perhaps they do, and hope to cow people into playing and creating in a particular way that coincides with their view of this imaginary world. It’s a control issue that they have to contend with, and it makes things unpleasant for others. They will grow out of it one day, perhaps, but for now the occasional storm will drift across your dashboard, and I think you made a wise decision to distance yourself from it.

Not everyone here is like that, or is as passionate about what is “right” and what is “wrong” in this wonderful imaginary little world of pixels and stories Carbine has created for us. Even Carbine has outlandish ideas written up in journal logs and random blurbs of lore seen around the game. If you can bear to watch and dig through the mud of opinions on Tumblr, you will see the glimmers of patience and understanding, as well as a desire to maintain a peaceful and encouraging environment. There is a great deal of mud though, and negativity tends to stand out the most because that’s how a lot of minds are programmed.

I could go on about how “right” and “wrong” is completely subjective, but that’s another thing entirely and will break a couple minds that aren’t ready. For now I’m going to say that the Lore argument will never disappear from fandoms as long as people feel the need to validate their opinions and their creations by rallying around the great rulebook known as Lore which, in my experience, tends to be rewritten again and again by the very people who have created it. Even forgotten about.

As for how all this has affected you, I urge you to go forward with your ideas and unleash your imagination. There is nothing stronger in this world than imagination - that’s where everything came from, after all - but it is fragile and should be closely guarded. Not in the sense that you should be paranoid about someone not liking your idea, though that is difficult to overcome for everyone and a source of lore arguments, but protected from the overwhelming negativity, cherished, and encouraged. If you allow this shit to squelch your beautiful imagination under fear then that will only lead into a terrible, uncomfortable, and heartbreaking downward spiral.
