The kingdom of God has been present since Jesus came proclaiming it to be “at hand.”
“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matt. 3:2).
From that time Jesus began to preach and say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matt. 4:17).
And as you go, preach, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matt. 10:7).
14 Now after John had been taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, 15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel” (Mark 1:14–15).
“At hand” means it’s right here where you can reach out and touch it. We have been living under an open heaven ever since that time.
While the kingdom is already here, it is nevertheless still largely hidden because it’s mostly in the hearts of men and women.
This is changing, however. We are now at the end of the church age and God is preparing to establish His kingdom in a greater way than ever before. In the next age whole nations will come into the kingdom. This is the millennium age that all the prophets looked forward to.
The current chaos in the world is an indicator that one age is passing away and another beginning. It was chaotic at the end of the age of Passover, and the beginning of the church age (age of Pentecost) when the Romans destroyed Jerusalem in 70 A.D.
At that time there was a kind of madness that descended upon the zealot factions in Jerusalem. Their actions made the situation much worse for the rest of the people living there. Flavius Josephus was an eyewitness who recorded the events of that time in his book, The Wars of the Jews.
We are seeing much of the same type of madness in our time, at least in some places. We don’t know how much longer the chaos will last, but we know that God is working to move humanity into an advanced form of what He has already established. The reason for the chaos is because the forces of darkness are fighting against God, but of course they can’t win. They know it, too.
Our message to the world at this hour is the same as it was then: “Repent (change your mind), for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” This is great news for humanity. A release from the governmental tyranny of man is very close. It will be brought about by a tremendous outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the world that will remove much of the darker elements and bring freedom to the downtrodden peoples of the earth.
