For the life of me I can’t even understand why this is a thing. I can attest to the fact that society shields white youth. When they are four and racist the excuse is “But I don’t want to teach my child about race - we are ALL human beings!” And when they are fourteen the excuse is “But they are just young and this was just a joke…” And when they are forty being discriminatory to POC at the workplace, it’s “Don’t bring up the race card…” And for me it’s these continued microagressions that go unanswered and prevent us from dealing with the racism/sexism problem as a country. As long as it’s a Black problem or a gay problem or a woman problem or a Hispanic problem we stand outside the fence of opportunity and progress.
