ok, i think if you've seen any of my other posts, you know that i am extremely serious about my headcanon/interpretation of scythe as a butch lesbian. i've felt very strongly about this matter from the moment i was introduced to her over a year ago up until now. however, i have never explained precisely Why i feel this way, and i hate arguing for something without giving reasons or evidence to support it, even if most of you don't go here. please keep in mind that, throughout this, i'll be running off the assumption that you the reader understand what a butch is beyond aesthetics. if not, then please do some research, not just for me but for yourself; lesbian & butch/femme culture is a vast and beautiful thing that deserves to be preserved.
for my own sake, i'll be splitting this up into three sections:
scythe's in-game aesthetic presentation, including a little diatribe about how phighting writes (or rather, doesn't write) gender
scythe's personality, her interactions with other characters, and how she is viewed/described
scythe's backstory, her relationship with grappling hook, and her allegiance to the church of the TRUE EYE
and now, the actual analysis can begin!
PSA: For fan works, reblog and like from OP
Tumblr is rolling out a new reblog/notes system that completely disregards creators. In their new system, they're taking a twitter-style approach where reblogs will have their own notes that DO NOT contribute to the original post's notes.
Because of this, creators will no longer be able to see an accurate display of likes/reblogs/etc. This is completely altering the way feedback and responses to works are going to be received on this website.
If you come across a fan work that you enjoy, please take the extra step to go to OPs original post, and leave your comment/like/reblog there. Or go one step further and send an ask to OP directly to tell them what you liked!
I really hope Tumblr staff reverses course and reverts to the original reblog system for the sake of the large base of creators who use this site to share their works, but until then, please be considerate and make sure the creators here see/feel the love.
this new tumblr reblog change is turbo ass and will only enable more transmisogynistic harassment on a website Already Pretty Noxious With It. if we're mutuals and you want to reach out to me you can dm me for my discord handle but like good god if the amount of people i have to block on a daily basis hits a notable increase i'm outtieeeeeee. catch me on fucking carrier pigeon

so as long as tumblr keeps this, here's the tumblr version of etiquette that was maintained when twitter's quote-retweets affected artist visibility/notes:
for art that someone has added reblog commentary to (or removed the caption from), reblog from the source
otherwise, avoid adding reblog comments to art (as this will affect the artist's notes/visibility)âutilize tags and replies to provide commentary (which artists will absolutely appreciate)
reblog comments are comments added to the body of a post, not the tags and not replies.

Reblogs in a chain now get their own notes
The reblog chain is one of the things that makes Tumblr unlike anywhere else. All the notes on reblogs are attributed to the original post, no matter which branch people actually liked or reblogged. We want to keep encouraging conversations, and give contributors the recognition they deserve.Â
Soon, you'll be able to like, reblog, or reply to any part of a reblog chain, and that note will go to that reblog's author. Each reblog will have its own counts, instead of one aggregated number from every version of the post. And yes, youâll be able to like multiple posts in one chain.
If a reblog doesn't add anything, the love flows up to the last person in the chain who did. Your post doesn't lose notes just because people spread it quietly.
Past notes will stay on the original post â we're only changing what happens from here on out. Retroactively re-attributing all of them would be... a lot.
This is just the beginning. More changes are coming as we keep building this out â stay tuned!
Itâs very clear that you all have strong feelings about Tumblr and about this change. We hear you. The passion people have for how Tumblr works is one of the things that makes this place special.
As this rolls out over the next few days and you explore it, weâll keep reading your replies and reblogs, so please keep sharing your questions, concerns, and ideas.
Your creativity has always been the heart of Tumblr, whether youâre the original poster or adding something brilliant in the reblogs, and nothing about this change is meant to limit that.
If youâd like to talk directly beyond the comments, leave a reply and weâll follow up with as many of you as we can. We want to work with you to make Tumblr better.
Reblogging to this as well. I'm not sure the understanding of 'love' flowing is properly understood here- you're giving 'love' to previous rebloggers, but completely stopping it from being received by original posters in the process.
I know trying to upkeep this artblog was already a load on my energy, but this has killed it. Removing notes from the original poster kills the interaction feed that an artist typically gets. I don't understand what part of the reblog system was looked at and necessitated this change.
Please, for the sake of your users, roll back this update. At minimum put up a poll to gather feedback. And if nothing changes and this clunky, cluttering, bugged update stays on the site, those that enjoy what I've been posting can find me on bluesky under @lemonzone.bsky.social .

Hey man, where've you been?
Short answer: Still enjoy these character, very much uninterested in forsaken itself for obvious reasons.
After everything that went down with the game itself, I'm very hesitant to rely on the lore it's built. Considering that, I've redone a LOT of what I originally had foundationally with 7n7 and coolkid... which admittedly, makes it really hard to continue this askblog as is? I know i've been very, VERY radio silent, but if anyone who followed this liked where it was going a little, would you guys be interested in a restart with new lore (This will also come with an artstyle + design update considering it's been. years. so)

Disney has lost Roger Rabbit
I'm on a tour with my new book, the international bestseller Enshittification: catch me next in London, Toronto and San Diego! Full schedule here.
Gary K Wolf is the author of a fantastic 1981 novel called Who Censored Roger Rabbit? which Disney licensed and turned into an equally fantastic 1988 live action/animated hybrid movie called Who Framed Roger Rabbit? But despite the commercial and critical acclaim of the movie, Disney hasn't made any feature-length sequels.
This is a nightmare scenario for a creator: you make a piece of work that turns out to be incredibly popular, but you've licensed it to a kind of absentee landlord who owns the rights but refuses to exercise them. Luckily, the copyright system contains a provision designed to rescue creative workers who fall into this trap: "Termination of Transfer."
"Termination of Transfer" was introduced via the 1976 Copyright Act. It allows creators to unilaterally cancel the copyright licenses they have signed over to others, by waiting 35 years and then filing some paperwork with the US Copyright Office.
Termination is a powerful copyright policy, and unlike most copyright, it solely benefits creative workers and not our bosses. Copyright is a very weak tool for protecting creators' interests, because copyright only gives us something to bargain with, without giving us any bargaining power, which means that copyright becomes something we bargain away.
Think of it this way: for the past 50 years, copyright has only expanded in every direction. Copyright now lasts longer, covers more kinds of works, prohibits more uses without permission, and carries stiffer penalties. The media industry is now larger and more profitable than at any time in history. But at the same time, the amount of money being earned by creative workers has only fallen over this period, both in real terms (how much money an average creative worker brings home) and as a share of the total (what percentage of the revenues from a creator's work the creator gets to keep). How to explain this seeming paradox?
The answer lies in the structure of creative labor markets, which are brutally concentrated. Creative workers bargain with one of five publishers, one of four studios, one of three music labels, one of two app marketplaces, or just one company that controls all the ebooks and audiobooks.
The media industry isn't just a monopoly, in other words â it's also a monopsony, which is to say, a collection of powerful buyers. The middlemen who control access to our audiences have all the power, so when Congress gives creators new copyrights to bargain with, the Big Five (or Four, or Three, or Two, or One) just amend their standard, non-negotiable contract to require creators to sign those new rights over as a condition of doing business.
In other words, giving creative workers more rights without addressing their market power is like giving your bullied kid more lunch money. There isn't an amount of lunch money you can give that kid that will buy them lunch â you're just enriching the bullies. Do this for long enough and you'll make the bullies so rich they can buy off the school principal. Keep it up even longer and the bullies will hire an ad agency to run a global campaign bemoaning the plight of the hungry schoolkids and demanding that they be given more lunch money:

If you have a work you signed away the copyright for 35 years or more ago, here is a tool from Creative Commons and the Authors Alliance for terminating the transfer and getting your rights back (disclosure: I am an unpaid member of the Authors Alliance advisory board): https://rightsback.org/
