Skating to the gas station at 4am w/ Denki Kaminari

it’s 3:30am, you’ve jolted awake from yet another nightmare, they won’t stop. being annoyed, you gave up on trying to fall asleep again. throwing your legs over the edge of your bed, you stood up and pulled on a hoodie before making your way down to the common room. the area is dark, you assume it’s empty, but are proven wrong when you see the illumination of someones phone coming from one of the couches. after little examination, you discover it’s denki kaminari. you’ve liked kaminari for a few months now, your heart skipped a beat once realizing it was him. you decide to just let him find out for himself that you’re there, and walk into the kitchen. the light of the fridge brightens the whole area, letting kaminari know you’re there. he sat up on the couch and propped himself up on the arm rest.
“y/n?” he asked, rubbing his eyes, adjusting to the brightness. “that you?”
“yeah,” you replied, “hey.”
“hey,” he said brightly, sitting upright as you walk over to the couches. “can’t sleep?”
“something like that,” you took a sip of your water and sat down on the couch across from kaminari. “why’re you up?”
“well, i was going to study, but i ended up getting side tracked and played video games for the last two hours,” he explained with a short laugh. “now i can’t sleep, too much energy.”
you laughed softly, rubbing your eyes tiredly. “i need caffeine, someone finished the coffee.”
kaminari tried to think of a solution, bringing his eyebrows together in concentration. his face lit up with an idea and he moved to sit right at the edge of the couch cushions. “you skate right?”
“yeah?” you nodded, raising an eyebrow.
“there’s a gas station down the road, we can go get whatever you want, i’ll buy!” he exclaimed happily.
you couldn’t help but smile and blush at his enthusiasm, you giggled softly and agreed. “i’ll go get my board, meet out front in 10?”
“yeah! see you then!” he grinned ear to ear, running up the stairs to his dorm.
you changed into warmer clothes and grabbed your skateboard, shoving a few things into your bag and throwing it over your shoulder before going back downstairs. pushing open the dormitory building doors, you saw denki sitting on the steps, his phone in hand and his skateboard resting next to him. he turned around at the sound of the door opening, his face lighting up, quite literally, the motion detector lights lit up the porch. he grabbed his board and stood up. “you ready?” he asked with a smile.
you nodded and stepped down with him. together, you walked off the campus until you were out of sight of any dorm buildings. once you were closer to the exit of the school, denki turned on this playlist, raised the volume, then jumped onto his skateboard, with you following after him. he was careful to match your pace, liking the sight of the city lights in your eyes, your hair flowing in the wind as you flew down the road, he didn’t want to be too far ahead or behind. “turn here,” he said as you neared a cross road, cocking his head towards the direction you need to go. the station came into view and you rode into the parking lot, slowing down and jumping off your boards. he led you inside and you went to go get your drinks.
“which monster should i get?” you asked, walking up to the fridge holding the energy drinks.
“white or red,” he replied, reaching inside and taking a white one for himself. “they’re the best ones, fight me.”
“i agree,” you smiled, grabbing a red one and turning to check out.
you reached for your bag to get your wallet but denki grabbed your wrist. “didn’t i say i’ll buy?” he asked with a smile, handing the cashier his card.
you blushed ever so slightly, smiling softly. “thanks.”
“you got it,” he said brightly, scooping up the drinks and taking your wrist again, walking you outside. you stared at the hand now holding your wrist, blushing harder, you caught up with him and he let go.
you sat on the curb across from the gas pumps, drinking your drinks and eating the gummy worms denki had bought. you held light conversation, talking about the different marks on your skateboards and how you got them. stages of conversation, turning from the skateboards to scars, scars to hero work, hero work to school, now you’re here just laughing at random stories from the past school year.
“i remember last summer during the training camp in the woods, you electrocuted that mud monster thing, that was really cool,” you smiled widely, bringing up your hands and trying to make weird lightning hand movements?? denki laughed, bringing up his hands and copying your tiny lightning hand movements but with actual electricity zaps.
“your quirk is so cool,” you smiled softly, resting your chin in your hand as you stared at his hands. his long fingers wrapped with the golden lightning bolts, his nails painted black, silver rings littering his digits, quite a nice sight.
“thanks,” he said brightly, smiling and reaching over, zapping your thigh a tiny bit.
“ow! hey!” you whined, holding back laughter as you smiled and rubbed your leg. he laughed with you and you elbowed his arm, just making him laugh more. he stared at you with a grin, watching your laughter end but your smile never faltering. you turned your gaze forward, sighing and looking at the gas station door. “thanks, kaminari,” you whispered just loud enough for him to hear you. “for taking me out here, this was fun.”
“it’s not over yet,” he replied, making you look up at him. “one, call me denki, kaminari doesn’t feel right coming from you.”
you nodded, waiting for him to continue.
“and two, can i kiss you?” he finished, your eyes widened. he didn’t seem the least bit nervous.
you swallowed nodded hesitantly, he smiled and quickly leaned forward, pressing his lips against yours. you kissed him back, it was a soft embrace, but deep, you felt denki’s lips curl into a smile against yours. your lips followed, smiling softly before he pulled away, grinning ear to ear when your eyes met his again. he turned to face forward, then looked to the ground and put his head between his legs, his arms on top of his head.
“denki?” you asked in a concerned voice, unable to tell if he was giggling or crying??
he let out a obvious chuckle and stood up, throwing his arms in the air triumphantly (DORK), then pointing at you. “i’ve like you for months! suck it bakugou i knew they liked me back!” he yelled, facing UA and moving his point from you to the school. you started laughing, softly at first, but then it turned into a full on cackle as denki threw himself back onto the curb next to you, but fell backwards from too much momentum, sending his skateboard into the middle of the parking lot after accidentally kicking it. he laughed too, chased after his board, then ran back to you. he grabbed your wrists and pulled you to your feet, quickly laying his hands on your waist and pulling you into another kiss. you kissed him back, wrapping your arms around his neck and pulling him closer, deepening the embrace. he pulled away but wrapped his arms around you fully and spun you around while giggling. “you’re so awesome,” he said brightly, setting you down and taking your hands in his. “no you,” you replied, your cheeks sore from smiling so much, but doing it again nevertheless.
it’s late, 5:25am to be exact, so early? idk, you agreed it’s time to go back to the dorms. you rode home together, ending the night with another kiss before splitting up to your dorms. this was a pretty swag night.
