Anyone else think that Asanthony's "meet cute" wasn't really that cute?
When Asa says his line about "it's my lucky day because I have a book you want" Anthony replies "fair enough"...
Why does he say that?! To me, "Fair enough" is what you say when you don't understand, don't agree, or just want to move on from a conversation... It felt uncomfortable and almost like he was judging or laughing at Asa. Or, ok, maybe he's just awkward and flustered, fine, but THEN
later, Anthony says "I'm not giving you my number" - then he allows Asa to struggle, visibly anxious, and start to backtrack before he adds "I'll wait for you." Umm WTF, that is an asshole move to mess with him like that. He's literally negging poor Asa who was very brave to ask him out!! 😠
Ugh. It's really the LEAST of our worries, but, I kept thinking about this so thank you for allowing me to indulge in some bitterness 😈 Anyone else NOT impressed by their meet cute, or is it just my negative bias skewing my perception? 😅
The Prince of Winterfell arc only gets more funny(in a depressing way) if you think about it from literally anyone but Theon’s pov
Like the Ironborn? Your lame girly prince you were told to listen to finally has like- a good plan but immediately upon successfully doing this plan everything goes to shit because this kid is just certifiably unhinged and kills his hostages.
Your average Winterfell servant? You remember that one bitchy Stark ward? The one who was supposedly your Kings ✨Best Friend✨? Yeah, he showed up in the middle of the night with fifty men from his shitty hometown and trashed the placed. He’s now surprised that everyone is mad at him.
Maester Luwin? You’ve known Theon since he was nine. You practically helped raise him; and sure he was always a few marbles short of a jar but you gotta ask yourself; what the fuck happened here??? Because it’s been a few months tops and he WAS NOT this bad when you last saw him!
Ramsay? Well you’ve just faked your death and got captured by a six year old. Your favorite freak is dead so that’s a bummer. Suddenly the fucking ironborn show up- which is crazy because this place is landlocked- and they take you to the great hall. That’s when you meet the leader of this whole thing. A spoiled little teenage princeling with daddy issues who is so clearly one hard shove away from a complete mental break. And you think “yeah, I’m going to turn him into my dog.”
So much has been said about the changes to Arya and Jaqen storyline on Game of Thrones. Their story was altered almost entirely. GRRM hated it, the book readers hated it, the show only audience hated it. Even the actors themselves weren't happy about it though they delivered excellent performances regardless of the rewrites.
I once read that before season 5 was made they had had a different idea regarding Arya's assassin training. They had already abandoned GRRM's books at this point and the decision to give the whole story a different outcome had already been made.
But they still weren't sure how exactly Arya's Braavos chapters would be adapted. Elio Garcia even said they might have dropped Braavos altogether and let Arya roam Westeros with Jaqen and learn the craft on the way.
I know that Braavos is very important and much more interesting in the books. Still, I think Elio's idea was actually quite good and would have worked a lot better than what we eventually got. I mean they ruined Braavos anyway. They changed the faceless men's philosophy, they changed the Waif and Jaqen, they cut the Kindly Man and Umma and Brusco and the true meaning of Izembaro's play and so on and so forth.
Elio's scenario would have let keep Jaqen's true personality and wit and the original dynamic of his relationship with Arya which was so entertaining. What's done is done but I still kind of mourn that idea. It could have been so much fun.

finally watched our flag means death. doodled this between seasons so it does not quite fit my current mood but nevertheless
To this day my favorite TV duo is still Arya and the Hound
I love the trope of randomly acquired children to begin with, but the fact that this brute of a man goes from "I'm going to ransom this bratty kid back to her family for gold" to "this is my little murder-hobo daughter and I will protect her with my life. She has a kill list (that I am on), would (and does) leave me to die, and I am so proud of her" will never not be the funniest thing ever to me.
Headcanon: when they don't have their swords, they fight like a wolf cub and a hound (biting each other)

I haven't read the books yet. What is Arya and Jaqen relationship like ? I don't mind spoilers
Hello Anon!
First of all, I apologize for the delay.
Arya's relationship with Jaqen is quite different in the books. For starters, Jaqen is a lot younger, only a few years older than Gendry, And he is not teaching Arya in Braavos. He leaves her in Harrenhal to pursue his own goal which is getting a dragon's egg and learning the secrets of hatching dragons in the Citadel. There is also a strong connection between Jaqen and Arya pairing and weirwood magic.
Jaqen first noticed Arya when she beat up Hot Pie on the way to Harrenhal. They were going to the Watch with Yoren, like in the show. Jaqen tried to make friends with Arya after the fight. I suspect he wanted to trick her into freeing him from the cage but it also looked as if he wanted to offer her protection because he saw that she was lonely and afraid. Arya was charmed by him from the start. She loved how handsome Jaqen was and noted his good manners.
They were attacked near the God's Eye lake like in the show. However, in the books the attack was much worse and the fire that the Lannisters's men started was horrific. The show didn't give the impression that rescuing Jaqen from the burning cage was that hard. In the books, Arya admitted to herself that it was the hardest thing she had ever done. She killed a man and risked her own life to save Jaqen. During the attack Jaqen also told Arya that he wanted to fight in the red war. The red war is the war of R'hllor, the same war Melisandre is preaching about - the battle for the Dawn. So, book!Jaqen is familiar with the prophecy and has been prepared to fight that battle.
The Lannisters's men took the recruits to Harrenhal. Jaqen followed to pay his debt to Arya. One night he found her sleeping in the cellar and woke her up to tell her he was willing to kill three men for her because she saved his life and the lives of Rorge and Biter. Arya wanted them to run away together but Jaqen refused and insisted on the killings. Arya was disappointed so he kissed her hair to comfort her. Such a charmer he is in the books :)

Theon Greyjoy’s only crime was wanting an ounce of love and acceptance from anyone in his life and also that time he killed those kids
