Body shaming is defined as inappropriate negative statements and attitudes toward another personâs weight or size. It can also reach into the discrimination against individuals who may be overweight.
I have been told that I am getting fat⌠twice⌠within one week⌠by men. For someone strange reason, they felt very comfortable telling me to my face that I was getting fat. For some odd reason, Iâm not even mad, just really disappointed.
Do I think Iâm fat? No. Am I mad? No. For some odd reason, Iâm not even mad, just really disappointed.
Iâm disappointed that we live in a world where people feel the need to comment and discuss your body⌠YOUR. OWN. BODY. If people truly knew the impact words truly have on a person, they would THINK before they SPEAK.
Body shaming is how a person greets another person or passively drops some advice. Body shaming is how conversations get started, keep them going or quickly end them. Body shaming is killing the confident voice in a personâs head that made them feel damn good and awakening the demon that will make them feel self conscious. Body shaming limits the things that a person will wear or places they go⌠after all, if a person is fat, they canât wear everything right? Body shaming can lead to depression, drug abuse, suicide.
Society and Hollywood makes it harder for WOMAN to be WOMANâ to be the individuals God created in the likeness of His image (Genesis 1:27). Itâs no longer about character, attitude and intelligence, but itâs about how tiny your waist is, how curvy your body is, how flat your stomach is. Itâs about blending into society, instead of standing out with your UNIQUE. DOPE. AMAZING BODY.
Body shaming is a horrible form of bullying, because in their mind they are just trying to help out, but if Iâm comfortable in my skin, who are you really helping?
A few years ago I was âtoo skinnyâ, I needed to âput on more weightâ, âeat moreâ. Now, âIâm fatâ, âI need to go on a dietâ, âYou wonât be able to fit through the doorâ. No matter what you do, the world will never be happy⌠might as well just live your life the way you want to live it. If you have curves, EMBRACE THEM. If you slim and slender, EMBRACE IT. If you have health reasons and you had to lose weight or gain weight or maybe you want a new you, do it because of YOU not anyone else. Enjoy and embrace the temple God blessed you withâŚ
Regardless, bullying is NEVER okay.
Regardless, Iâm beautiful. I know who I am living for and who Iâm serving. Until I say Iâm fat and decide to go to the gym because Iâm fat, may peace and abundance of blessings rain on you. Until then, I have nothing but love for you. Thank you.
