Hey everyone, I'm just going to give a quick update on Omar's campaign. Unfortunately, things have not been going well -- our last donation was five days ago, and despite me posting about his situation both here and on instagram, no one seems interested in donating. I understand that there is a cost of living crisis and everyone is just trying to get by, but i think now more than ever is a time for people to be building community and helping each other, even when they do not have much to give.
Omar's mother is still very sick, and she has been unable to get her medication recently because due to lack of funds, the Saqer family has had to pour all of their donations into paying their rent instead of getting her the care that she needs. Her pain is so severe that she has been struggling to eat, drink, and even sleep.
To make matters worse, Omar's instagram account has recently been flagged, and he is no longer able to message people to ask for help. This is a huge reason why we have not had any donations this week, as the majority of people who have donated have done so after speaking directly to Omar. I'm really worried about him, he is very anxious and is terrified that his family will be evicted or worse if his campaign stays stagnant like this. He has been begging me to help him get more donations, but honestly I feel pretty powerless right now. Out of all the posts I've made for Omar, all but 5 or 6 of the reblogs have been from me, and because the people who have been reblogging have not been donating, about three donations at most have been from people on Tumblr. Again, I know that money is tight for everyone right now, but for just one minute, I'm begging you to put yourself in Omar's shoes. Imagine you had to drop out of your dream university course to provide for your family, only for that providing to rely on the kindness of random strangers online, effectively having to resort to begging in order to barely scrape by. And now imagine that almost every person you turn to turns you away.
If you have anything to spare, please click this link and donate. The campaign accepts as little as $1, and at this point there really is no donation too small. If you really can't spare even that much, then reblogs are still helpful, but please do not use reblogging this post as an excuse not to donate if you do have the means. A family of five is depending on the generosity that the internet is able to provide. I really am not trying to guilt trip anyone but I am not exaggerating when I say we are desperate right now. Thank you in advance <3
