your horse does not care if he never shows again, if he never becomes a champion, if he never works his way up through the levels. your horse is perfectly happy sitting in a field eating grass every day, though I’m sure they’d love to see you even if it’s just to give them treats. if your horse requires exercise because of a metabolic disorder or otherwise, find a nice not-depressed person to lunge him a few times a week. but trust me, your horse does not feel like you’re failing him. I fully understand the guilt, I feel it every day I plan to see my horse and decide not to, but just know that they’re ok not being ridden for a bit, or only occasionally, so long as you continue to respect their limits when you do ride.

- some horses actually don’t like bitless bridles- - you can hurt a horse with a bitless bridle too. Even with a sidepull. The nerves on the nose are super sensitive. - Riding bitless doesn’t make you a better person - a natural  hackamore is NOT a soft bridle - yes, an incorrectly used bit hurts a horse… guess what an incorrectly used bitless bridle does… - the fact that I’m riding with a bit, doesn’t mean I torture my horses - the fact that I’m competing in horse shows doesn’t mean I torture my horses - cursing bits without knowing anything about the way they work won’t get you anywhere - yes, there are some bits that actually hurt a horse - guess what… there are also bitless bridles that hurt a horse
