a couple of years go by with little to no work (a couple of music videos, backup dancers for small artists, etc), and she decided instead of asking her parents for help, she would try something new. one of her friends suggested that she come work with her at a strip club, and although she was a bit nervous at first, it wasn’t long before she fell in love with it. pole dancing made her feel so free and empowered, like nothing could hold her back from getting what she wanted.

when he was a senior in high school, a flyer went around stating that there was a band in need of a lead singer and they were holding auditions. he couldn't believe his luck, so he begged his mother to cover for him while he went to try out. surprisingly, he was the only one that showed up to auditions, but that's okay, because they ended up loving his voice anyway. thus, bitter echo was made whole.

it took the band a while to find their groove and start working together like a well-oiled machine, but once they did, they exploded. it started with playing at parties, then to local gigs here and there, playing small, dingy clubs where your shoes stuck to the floor. they'd play anywhere they could, needing more experience playing in front of people until word spread about how good they were. they started booking better clubs, bigger venues, and soon they were actually able to book gigs that they could charge for and start making a little money. it wasn't long before they were scooped up by a well known music producer, getting them in the studio to record an album.

they gained popularity fast, the group barely graduating high school before they were sent on their first official tour. his father was furious, but as roman had turned 18, there was nothing he could do about it. he was all too eager to fly the coop, to escape his father's wrath once and for all. he loved his mother and siblings, but they understood. this was his chance to get out, and he had to take it.

the first tour, he and the rest of the band made it out pretty unscathed as far as drugs went, avoiding anything harder than weed. their manager was strict about losing control since they were still new and fresh, wanting to keep negative press to a minimum. he could count on one hand the amount of times he got blackout drunk, and he counted that as a win, and so did his manager.

after the second album, they got even bigger. this meant they were invited to more parties, and since they were making good money, their manager cared less and less about what the band got into. he would just pay to have it covered up. his bandmates were bad, bad influences, dragging him to the depths with them as they partied their way through the second tour. he was always chasing the high that performing gave him, trying to recreate it with anything he was offered. coke, ecstasy, molly, you name it -- he was doing it. the hangovers went from bad to worse, but he powered through it. after a particularly bad scandal involving one of his bandmates and a girl who OD'd, their manager forced them to reel it in if they wanted to continue making music. this sobered them up for a while, keeping the partying to only a couple nights a week.

he met cole on the band's third tour, at the height of bitter echo's career. girls fell at their feet every night, but all he wanted was her. the first time they met felt like fate, like she was the missing puzzle piece that he'd been searching for his entire life. they were like fire and ice, destined for disaster, but they didn't care. on the stage performing for thousands of people, all he could ever see was her. they were attached at the hip, almost never leaving each other's side, and that wasn't always a good thing. they were explosive, both in their love and their fights.

the drugs and alcohol only made it worse, losing themselves to the substance abuse, but never truly able to end things. they knew the crash and burn was inevitable, but they loved each other too deeply to let each other go. even when they 'took a break', it was never long before they were back in each other's beds. this went on for years, the volatile relationship spiraling into nothing but chaos. it was absolute hell on the band, but did make for some killer songwriting, so they couldn't complain too much.

his entire world imploded the day that cole disappeared. it came out of nowhere, at least that's what he told himself and others. no goodbye, no nothing. he expected to find her after the show, one of his best to date, only to find all of her things packed up and gone. finishing the tour without her was like pulling teeth, his performances sloppy as he showed up to shows drunk or high or both. the band broke up shortly after that tour, unable to work through roman's bad attitude and worsening addiction. he fled back home, his mother welcoming him with open arms.

backstory

his wife went missing fifteen years ago, and it absolutely wrecked him. they still haven't found her. they met in college and fell hard and fast, and when they graduated both of them moved to pinehaven, her hometown (she's a whitman) and started working on the dairy farm together. they got married soon after, happy as can be. they waited a few years to start trying for a family, but when they did, she just couldn't seem to get pregnant. this caused some turmoil in their relationship, both of them so determined on having the family of their dreams. after so many failed attempts, even after fertility treatments, she gave up entirely. teddy tried to suggest adopting, but at that point she was so dejected that she refused to discuss that option. (this definitely could've contributed to her disappearing.) he didn't bring it up again and after a while, things went back to normal(ish). they went about their lives as usual, working at the farm. he would try to plan romantic evenings, taking her out to eat & spoiling her with gifts. there was still some underlying tension & sadness, but for the most part everything was fine... until one day, she just disappeared without a trace. there was a huge investigation, the police searching the house top to bottom, collecting all the evidence they could. things like this didn't happen in the small town of pinehaven, especially to a whitman, so the news was all over it. he was hounded by reporters every day for weeks, he could barely leave his house without running into them. he would've just stayed home, but he couldn't. he couldn't just do nothing. so he went out every day, passing out flyers, asking people if they'd seen her. he would venture out to surrounding towns as well, spreading the word as far as he could. there were rumors that he had something to do with it for a while, but there was no evidence to support the claims. some of the locals would avoid him because of it, and some still do. he's become a bit of an urban legend with the teenagers, making up inane stories to tell around a campfire to scare the kids. he went through a grieving period about five years after her disappearance, fearing the worst, that she was no longer alive. he couldn't stand thinking about it, but at that point, it was a very likely possibility -- or so everyone speculated, and kept telling him. he basically became a hermit for a couple years, only leaving his house when absolutely necessary. he was in a deep depression at that point, either sleeping roughly 16 hours a day or not being able to sleep at all without violent nightmares. when he couldn't take it anymore, he finally went to get some help. he was prescribed some sleeping pills and started going to therapy, and after a few months, he weened himself off the pills. he goes to therapy to this day, once a week, to keep himself in check. he still has nightmares every so often, but they're not nearly as vivid and horrible as they once were. by now, most people have moved on or forgotten, but he hasn't. can't. still holds onto a sliver of hope that she'll come back to him. calls the police station frequently to see if there's been any news, any sightings. they know him by name, and there's always disappointment in their voices when they have to tell him they have nothing new.
