Whine and cheese

Where my driveway was pretty well snow from the previous day's storm I opted to bring my lunch with me Friday as I didn't feel like climbing up and then back down my long, steep driveway. Because of this I let CW have a longer lunch break since I was not leaving the office.

Supervisor herself has done this (ie didn't go home for lunch and let other person have a longer break) so I thought it was okay. And in all honesty she probably wouldn't have cared much if it had been the other way around but for some reason she has a massive grudge against CW and has been making her life miserable. (Trouble is she's been sneaky about it so if CW complains to HR its like a she said/they said situation.)

I just feel bad as CW is in trouble over something I let her do. I'm going to get reamed out too but it was my suggestion. Sigh.

We were headed to my cousin's wedding in Augusta this weekend; mom was the florist. Cousin and fiancee were rather vague about flower wants until finally back in May fiancee decided she wanted blue and white for colors and what pieces ie 3 flower crowns and boutinneres, 1 wedding bouquet, and table centerpieces. Also NO lilies "as some of her family were allergic to the scent".

Later fiancee decided she wanted mock ups; Mom did them using hydrangea and delphinium for the blue, they were approved. Fast forward to weekend prior to the wedding and suddenly she wants all non toxic flowers because of the cats. Mom's like "There are cats at the wedding?" (you never know these days) and fiancee huffily said that guests taking them home will have cats and they don't want to poison the cats. Guess what's toxic? Hydrangea and delphinium.

Fortunately Mom was able to cancel her original flower orders with no penalty and get the new ones expressed shipped (which still end up being a day later as we live on an island). We had to go with blue dyed roses and orchids for the blue which was approved by the couple. They were ordered Monday (14th), came late Wednesday afternoon and had to be hydrated overnight so Mom could work on them Thursday. She sent pics which Cousin loved. So far so good

Friday was travel day; Mom and I in one car and Aunt H and Grandma in another. Cousin texted around noon asking for an update and we said we made it off the island okay and we were headed up.

At 3 he texts us asking if were in Augusta yet as the Event Planner was only there at the venue until 4 (they were there decorating). We should have been but traffic was heavy and we had to make several stops along the way. Mom says no we're only in Bangor.

Then all hell broke loose. Mom gets the NASTIEST text calling her unprofessional; that she had missed SO MANY DEADLINES and this was the last straw as the the flowers were supposed to be installed TODAY. They would still pay for them but would NOT accept the flowers. Mom was still welcome as a guest (like, was she not before? lol) They also accused Mom of DISREGARDING all of their wishes and using LILIES. Flowers in question were alstroemeria which LOOK like lilies but are non-toxic. To be fair apparently they can cause stomach distress but that wasn't on the site mom had checked. They were also only on the headdress and Mom said she could replace them. Still no.

Now this was Friday afternoon. The wedding was Saturday afternoon. What we were going to do was crank up the AC in the hotel room so the flowers stay nice and cool until the event (we've done it like this for a couple events with no problems) No florist I've ever known sets up the flowers the DAY BEFORE the wedding. Cousin and fiancee never mentioned they wanted them the day before (and Mom would have explained why not if they had).

We almost went home then but we had to meet up with Aunt D so we continued up to Augusta. Next morning we thought about dropping them off anyway to the venue (we figured the venue could use them for something if nothing else) and Father of the Groom (Mom's brother) was going to deliver them but Cousin said absolutely not so another cousin's girlfriend got to keep the bouquet and an arrangement; gave a couple arrangements to the hotel we stayed at and gave the rest away at home. Needless to say Mom and I did not stay for the wedding; Mom didn't want to upset the bride and I was just so pissed off.

Yesterday someone made a reservation for a 73′ truck and trailer. The only other time this company has sent a truck and trailer it was their regular 38′ box truck with a trailer.

It was a tractor trailer. And it was too tall.

Not only was it too tall, nobody knew until they were loading it and the truck hit the wheelhouse causing damage to the truck. The captain reamed me out for not asking the height and as much as it galls me, he’s right. I should not have assumed, esp since we have a loaner ferry that has a shorter height restriction than ours (the irony is that the truck would have been fine on our boat). Had to laugh though as the terminal worker on the other side was apologizing as she didn’t think to measure the height and mentioned that the truck driver himself said if he had only looked up when pulling onto the boat he would have realized he was too tall (he was paying attention to the AB on deck). We both had to laugh as the Captain himself, who is always giving his two cents when the ABs are loading, didn’t notice the problem until it was too late.

In the end though, it was solely my fault. I’m pissed at myself as it’s a flipping rookie mistake, the company now has a damaged truck and the guy who made the reservations doesn’t have his stuff and has to make more plans to get it.

We have two on the front door and thankfully my co-worker locks the regular lock when she leaves and when I leave I lock the deadlock. I’m just dumbfounded as I have NEVER forgotten to lock the doors, NEVER.
