Thoughts on episode 48? I didn't realize it was filler the first time I watched it and I'm still very attached to it ngl. I think that might be because 'struggle as much as you need to' is on my mind as a phrase at all times. I will miss it dearly if the reboot doesn't carry it over although I probably can't be too upset if it means the overall pacing is cleaner.
talk world trigger to me
LMAO that means a lot to me actually. osamu is my boy of all time,,,
one of the reasons why this took so long to answer is that i had to go and watch the episode. i was vaguely aware of it before, as i had watched through the filler with a friend many moons ago, but i did end up,,,doing sudoku instead of watching lmao.
anyway. now that i have for realsiesβthere's a lot that i do like about this episode. i think it's very sweet just how much people came together just to help osamu even if it was in the most cringey, second-embarrassment hell kinda way. i do understand why the mikumo down parade had to happen this way because osamu really did have to struggle through it on his own. and even if i, the viewer, was embarrassed on osamu's behalf, no one else was (even kitora was more worried about contributing to osamu's self...harm, i guess? it's not not incorrect). everyone, even miwa, let it happen because they wanted to help, even if it was to help osamu take two steps back.
that osamu was able to bring so many people along to help him really speaks to why he is the protagonist. i'm a core 4 protag truther, but i also recognise that osamu's the POV character for a reason and he might not have the usual shounen protag powers, but being able to draw people in from all corners of the world,,,that's him, baby. the little asides were so cute. kazama pointing out it's not like kikuchihara to be concerned about someone else (hi, i'm a osakiku fan,,,) and jin directly calling out the savior-savee dynamic between miwa which has me gnawing on on their dynamic like raw hide. god, there's so much i want to dig into there but maybe not here, maybe in a fic.
also chika and yuma themselves musing on osamu's influence, what they owe to osamu, and how osamu is so integral in their lives. they wouldn't do this for just anyone. and even if they would, that doesn't invalidate the care that they show for osamu. because every relationship is going to be distinct even if it functionally, aesthetically and emotionally feels the same, it isn't.
because i think that's really the core of the episode. i think struggle as much as you need to is a really good message, but i also think that's just half of it. i think the full takeaway really goes something like this: struggle as much as you need to, i'm here for you. like you specifically. 'you are you', after all. that's what makes world trigger so special to me and what makes osamu so special to me.
no matter what, you cannot run from yourself. your limitations, you advantages, your many virtues and faults. so what are you going to do about it? what are you going to do about you? and you would think this would be very isolating, but world trigger also goes out of its way to say thatβit's okay. yeah, struggle. you have friends, you have not friendsβyou have people willing to help you, you just have to be comfortable with asking for it. with being vulnerale about it. yes, even with being embarrassing and cringey about it.
and they will. they will. because you are you.
i feel like i had set this up as if it was going to tear into the episode ("there are things i do like, but....") but really, my complaints about this episode is just that...every part of it is just done better in the story itself? osamu struggling, people coming to help osamu, yuma and chika musing to each other about osamu, yuma being there for osamu at the end to break through the noise and give him one clear answer to help unleash his burdens and let him feel and grieve and accept those feelings and grief. it's nice to see it all done in one episode, but, yeah, it's just done better in the actual story ashdasd
(side note: the 100 facts at the end is WILD. "osamu suffers so you don't have to so let's all hope he suffers more for all our sakes" paraphrasing here, however JSDJADASD LIKE. it's so funny. it's like, not spirituall wrong, but also not spiritually correct, it's just something to sit with hahah)
