Was no one else extremely disappointed with the changes they made to Kate and Anthony's story? I was really dissatisfied with how they managed to make their story shallow. One of the things I loved the most in the books was the innate connection they had due to both of their certainty of death. I was really let down by the handling of the story, Kate's deadly fear of storms was turned into merely being unable to sleep, Anthony's certainty of death wasnt even mentioned and the additional story the writers created disallowed for the exploration of their marrige (by far the best part of the novel.)
They knew that Kate and Anthony were one of the most anticipated couples yet chose to completely bungle their story rather than following the storyline that so many readers (myself included) loved. This is not a criticism of the actors, Johnathan and Simone were great, their chemistry was fantastic and Simone especially did a increadble job with the essence of Kate's character. I just fail to understand why the writers chose to change so much of the source material, in doing so they made Kate and Anthony's relationship seem to be built on sex rather than an intrinsic understanding of each other.
I wanted to see their marrige. I wanted to see Anthony grappling with falling in love while feeling the doom of his impending death, and his jealousy at Kate being able to conquer her demons while he is unable. I wanted to see Kate struggling to understand her husband and sweetness of him being at her sick bed explaining his deepest fears. I feel like I was cheated the emotional aspects of their relationship that I was so looking for and can't understand the need the writers felt to change it.
