We can already see this happening, especially with some Trigun Stampede stans who are gatekeeping and being extremely rude and hostile. Claiming that anyone who says anything remotely negative or critical of Stampede is just a hater or troll and not actual fans of the series. 

This will make it so that fans who do prefer the original or even those who have some problems or issues with the series, won’t feel free to speak up. And will push the OG anime further and further aside, until conversation and fandom spaces are just devoted nearly entirely to Stampede and you’ll have to dig for more OG Trigun content. 

I can already see how, in the future, when anime fans ask, “Which version of Trigun should I watch?” The automatic answer will, “Watch Stampede, it’s the better version.” And that’s just sad, because the OG Trigun was a classic for a reason.

Shinichi absolutely views Conan as a curse (though I personally think of the relationship in more medical terms, like Conan's a condition or illness, or using the terms of a ghost story, where Conan is haunting Shinichi though perhaps parasitic terms would fit as well). I'm still early on in my rewatch but what on brought this line of thinking was Episode 49 "The Diplomat Murder Case (Part 2)", the first time we're introduced to Heiji and find out that "Conan" is a reversible condition. And we get this scene...

The wording here is so... He could have said something like "am I turning back into a kid again," but instead he chose to say "that kid" and "am I turning back into Conan again", as if Conan was his own person and not just another facet of Shinichi. He personifies Conan to such a degree and refuses to acknowledge that it's still him, with all his memories and experiences. And the framing of this scene too, with Conan over Shinichi's shoulder like a lingering specter.
