FF5 FJF 2015 Run 1 Finish
So, Exdeath. And Neo Exdeath, really, because banana form is basically a pushover. Initially I headed in at about level 36-37, but the only characters who could survive Almagest were my Berserker and my Monk, and they could only survive with less than 100 HP. I gave it about two hours of attempts, just to see if I could make it work with some different setups, but got no joy. So I spent an hour or so grinding, made it up to levels 38-39, which allowed my Dragoon to also survive Almagest. (Sadly, it hit my Beastmaster for *exactly* her full HP.) I also tweaked my Berserker and Beastmasterâs support abilities which gave me a bit more damage output. Instead of unloading the three Breath Wings immediately (which seemed to cause Almagest and Grand Cross to hit very close together), I whittled down the Almagest portion of NED until I knew the Breath Wings would kill it, then went for it. Now all I had to do was keep damage evenly distributed between the two remaining parts so that one wouldnât be left alone and go berserk on me.
When you have a Berserker in your party, keeping single-target damage even among multiple parties is really hard! So I fucked up and killed the physical damage bit, leaving just the red lion Grand Cross part of NED. And it was mad.
I rushed through the rest of the Magic Lamp to get Reflect and Golem up, but it wasnât helpful. Instead of casting level 3 spells or anything actually Reflectable, NED went with Meteor. Meteor hits four times and, if it had targeted each member of my party separately, would have wiped me.
The second one hit Krile.
At this point I started yelling. âYES! YES, KRILE! TANK IT WITH YOUR FACE!â
She mustâve been listening, because the third and fourth hits also hit Krile. Krile was SUPER dead, but she was the only one dead, so I could use Faris (Monk) to revive her, freeing Lenna (dragoon) to Jump the fuck out of there. Which is good, because right after Lenna peaced out, NED decided it would be a sweet idea to cast three Almagests in a row.
So everyone is dead. Lenna lands. Decent damage, but NED still isnât dead. Itâs only a matter of time until the next triple Almagest. I spend about half a second debating about trying to revive another party member, but fuck it. I have basically one chance. Lenna Jumps.
In the GBA version of FF5 (which I was playing), the ending changes slightly based on whoâs dead at the end of the NED fight. This was the first time Iâd had only Lenna left alive, so I got to see a slightly different ending, which was neat. This was pretty sad, though:

!Catch and the Beast Killer were pretty great for this team. Also, KRILE FACE TANKED FOUR METEORS
Basically just used Monk as item chucker in the end game since the damage had fallen off so hard and I was not feeling like going for the Kaiser Knuckles because fuck Fork Tower without any type of mage. Hermes Sandals + buying a shitload of items did pretty well as far as heals went, though.
Dragoon was my main damage output in endgame and Jump was nice, if not reliable, for mitigating damage. Also hey Faris and Lenna both have green eyes

And thatâs it! I did it. Iâm not going back for Shinryu and Omega with this team. You canât make me. Iâll probably register for a second run this weekend.
