It’s International Women’s Day and personally I’m so happy to be surrounded by so many intelligent, kind, strong, sensitive and fabulous women! Women continue to face challenges from the patriarchy, laws on what they can do with their bodies and what is happening in the world around them. It is terrifying to watch what is happening to women in the US, Iran, Afghanistan and even in Canada. The stats on femicide in Canada are staggering. I am grateful for all the positive influences I have in my life from women who inspire and inform me as leaders. I would also like to credit women who aren’t often credited widely with women’s empowerment - romance writers! You inspire through your stories and characters who women can be and what we can all strive for. Women across the world deserve the best. They deserve safety, access to education, the right to make decisions about their own bodies and EQUALITY. This is a day to both celebrate women and recognize that we are strong enough to keep fighting to overcome the obstacles in front of us! Even small steps like supporting one another and sharing information to keep people informed make a difference.
