A Regency Period g/t idea
So, a small, four inch borrower lives in the walls of a vast mansion in the lovely British countryside. Though the large house means that thereβs plenty of maids and servants and the like constantly bustling about, itβs rather easy to live there unnoticed by the big ones, because the master of the manor is so seldom home, and half the rooms are unused.
The borrower sees the balls that are held in the ballrooms, sees the dancing and the lights, and they wish they could be like the big ones. They want the dancing, the food, the company, and the dresses. They live in makeshift clothes that are sewn up from old things the humans have gotten rid of; fancy dresses arenβt the best for borrowing in, so they have to wear something a little less wonderful as all of the humans get to wear.
But the food there is nice, and wandering through the vast libraries and ballrooms and bedrooms when no one is around is fascinating. One library in particular becomes the borrowerβs favorite, and they like to frequent it, and sometimes read through the novels that were left out by someone else on accident.
However, one night theyβre careless than most nights; maybe the last chapter they read ended on a cliffhanger and theyβre more than eager to get back to it, so they lose track of their surroundings. They slide off their thread rope, onto the desk in the library, turn around to find not their book, but the owner of the manor themselves.
Of course, the human is startled, their eyes go wide and both beings are frozen in place. Neither speaks, breathes, the borrower can practically feel the humanβs gaze travel over them, the moment is tense until -
βOH MY GOD, I CAN SEE YOUR ANKLESβ
βIβm a four inch tall person taking residence in your walls, and youβre concerned that Iβm wearing shorts?β
βLOOK, I DONβT MAKE THE RULES, JUST, THIS ISNβT NORMAL OH GOSH AM I BLUSHING I THINK IM BLUSHING IM SORRY IM NOT USED TO SEEING SOMEONE SO UNDERDRESSSED OH GOSHβ
βTheyβre just ankles.β
