taking this to mean, of course, that he learned from his high school sweetheart that love is "crazy," "often boring," and "pretty often debris" and that he learned from miss goldberg that love "reads like a bad biography" wherein "all the names are changed to protect the innocent [columbus closed his diary and went ashore];"

and we understand secondly that the sweetheart's and miss goldberg's purpose in the story, the reason marvin is conjuring them, is to explain to the audience and to echo to him the things he has seen and known love to be;

and we understand thirdly that their existence as figments of marvin's imagination means that they are so thoroughly removed from marvin's life that he remembers them only in essence, as their core selves, as their effect on his life;

then we can finally understand with complete clarity the deep significance of whizzer appearing in marvin's mind at the end of "what would i do?" to reiterate to marvin and to the audience what their relationship has taught marvin about love.
