"Lute and Aria," Shindou smiles at him from the couch, scratching both cat behind their ears. "Aren't they cute? I thought having one cat would be sad, so I got a another one. A friend for my first one."

"... I thought your cat's name was Gieseking," Kirino says as he clutches the doorframe. "One cat was enough, Shindou. One was enough."

"Lute was never named Gieseking," Shindou frowns, and picks Aria up. "And look, he's so cute... I can't always ask the helpers to watch over Lute when I'm not around." Aria (or Lute, Kirino doesn't care) purrs at Shindou before the boy sets him down on the couch again.

Kirino had at least hoped that the new cat would be a little friendlier than Gieseking (or Aria, or Lute, or whatever) but naturally, it doesn't work that way. It curls up on the /right side of the couch/ and he swears he can hear both cats hiss at him in their cat language.

"Shindou, your cat," Kirino tells him. "He's on the right side of the couch."

"Just put him on your lap," Shindou hums as he brings out the worksheets they had been assigned to accomplish. "He doesn't bite."

"Neechan!" Endou calls as he runs into the classroom you're in, nearly knocking over the students exiting. "It's an emergency!"

You blink and take a look at the wall clock. It's 4 PM. "Don't you have practice? And I told you to call me sensei at school, not neechan."

"I-I have a math test tomorrow." The look on his face is a serious one, one that you don't see often, despite having lived next door to the boy for most of your life. "And if I fail it, I might... Natsumi said... I... get kicked off... soccer..."  he trails off, before slapping his cheeks and shaking his head with the same energy of that as a puppy. "I just really need to pass it, okay!"

And you can see the determination in his eyes, the smile on his face, his powerful stance; and even you can feel the energy he's emanating—from the heat on your face right down to the warmth spreading towards your toes.

"I'll help you. I have to do something in the faculty room for now, you can head off to practice in the meanti—"

"I can't," he pouts. "Even if Natsumi won't be there, Kidou will be, and he's going to stop me from practicing..."

"Ah," you say, putting a finger to your chin in thought. "I'll pick out a few problems from your book, then go home and try to solve them on your own, okay? I won't take too long."

"Thank you, neechan," he says, letting out a sigh of relief, lunging at you with outstretched arms, leaving you no time to avoid his hug attack. "You're the best."

It happens in the agency hallway one day, when Sexy Zone's finished practicing and it's time for Taiga and his group to rehearse for the next Shonen Club episode. He lingers behind his group members, deep in thought about the English homework assigned to his class, when he's snapped out of his thoughts by another pair of lips on his.

"Wha—" he almost yells, but Kento presses a finger to his lips and pats his chest before pushing him forward to the rest of his groupmates. He tries to send him a glare but the other boy's already heading the other way, with an arm around Fuma's shoulder.

Taiga trips over Casey several times during practice (but now that he thinks about it, he's not sure if his groupmate had meant to trip him or if they were completely accidental; his thoughts lean toward the former) and is eventually sent out of the room to clear his head, but instead he goes home, unable to shake the memory out of his mind. Nakajima Kento kissed me, Taiga presses send, ignoring any typos he might have made, desperate to get any advice from his friend Yuta. He taps his foot on the floor impatiently, nearly stepping on Anzu-chan, but when he hears her whimper he cradles her in his arms and sends Yuta a follow-up e-mail.

I always knew you were too straight for this job wwwwww is the reply he gets after five minutes (five minutes Yuta probably spent laughing at his predicament, he scowls), and he angrily sends the other boy a message telling him that he is a useless piece of poop (with a pageful of poop emoji to emphasize his point!). The reply e-mail arrives almost immediately.

Taiga freaks out so much that he drops his dog and accidentally spams Yuta with a series of e-mails filled with bread emoji. "So," Kento says smoothly (Taiga scrunches his nose), standing uncomfortably close to the other boy's body (ohcrapohcrapohcrapohcrap), nudging him with an elbow. "So."

"Why did you do that?"

"Do what?" he smirks.

"That," Taiga says exasperatedly. It's hard trying to be as straight to the point as possible without actually bringing up what happened, and really, he just wants to punch this guy in the face.

"Oh," his eyebrows raise in mock surprise. "That."

"Yes. Why did you do that?"

"Spontaneity," he whistles, sliding his arm around the other boy's waist. "But you know, we could try it again, and I could give you a proper answer." And then Kento leans in even closer and Taiga can hear his heartbeat hammering in his eardrums and kill me no—

"Don't you have your own group to hit on?" Nozawa says sternly, grabbing Taiga by the shoulders and directing him to Sanada. "Sexy Zone is practicing in the other room." Kento frowns slightly before beaming, blowing a kiss in Taiga's direction before heading out the door. Taiga's face reddens considerably and he nearly crushes his water bottle.

"You're too straight for this job," Sanada comments. "But I'm not gay," Taiga repeats to Casey for the umpteenth time, and his friend just hums as he puts on his socks. "Kyomo-chan, that's what we all said when we entered the jimusho."

"But I'm really no—"

"You're in the same company as Arashi. You can't stop the inevitable," Takada points out, waving as he leaves the room.

"I like girls! I've kissed a couple. I've confessed to a few. I've had wet dreams about—"

"Ew man," Juri winces. "TMI."

"Bottom line is, I'm completely straight," he says, zipping up his backpack.

"Whatever gets you to sleep at night, bro." Taiga snorts and gets up to leave, while his groupmates shrug indifferently.

"Kyomoto-kun never said he didn't like him though, did he?" Ishikawa asks with wide eyes. "Ah, Tai—"

"I'm going to file a restraining order if you take even one more step," Taiga glares. The dark circles under his bloodshot eyes are in stark contrast with his paler-than-usual complexion. "You've been following me everywhere, and nobody gave you the license to send me suggestive messages at three in the morning. I almost failed my Chemistry test because of you! What do you have to say for yourself!" 

"Oh," Kento smirks, and Taiga gets even angrier.

"OH. OH? What about an I'm sorry, or a I'll stay away from you from now on, huh?!"

"P-piano," Shindou whimpers when he knows he's close, making Kirino stop what he's doing and instead look at him with raised eyebrows.

"Shindou... I don't know why you'd suddenly feel like playing the piano, but if you wanted me to stop you could've just said so." The pink-haired boy looks slightly offended by his friend's statement. Maybe he wasn't doing it right? It wasn't as if it was their first time together, but...

"... I was just telling you to be gentler," he says, caressing Kirino's arm. "Well, it means softer, but gentler nonetheless... I... it's a habit... I've developed recently..." He's blushing now, and Kirino scratches the back of his own head.

"I guess you'll just have to teach me these things, huh?"

"We need a theme song," Juri says one day, his arms folded over his chest and his feet on top of the cardboard box in front of him. "Detectives need theme songs. I'm thinking Secret Code, or Secret Agent Man..." "We're not spies," Hagiya tells him. "We're not detectives either." He turns to Camu and Juri and grabs the cookie they were fighting over, while Myuto searches his iPod for a good theme song. "You guys are too uncooperative!" Juri pouts as he scribbles something down in his case notebook. "But anyway, I call this meeting to order!" He bangs his makeshift table (which he almost destroys, it is only a cardboard box after all) and his groupmates stare at him.

"Our first issue is our theme song—"

"We don't need a theme song," Camu says, "We discussed that a few moments ago."

"Then we move to the issue of a secret junior who's been terrorizing everyone," he says, slamming his notebook shut for an added dramatic effect, but that effect is quickly lost when he opens it again. "Here's a complaint from Mis Snow Man—it says he had put Play-Doh in all of their shoes! When Nozawa-kun went to tell Myuto about this, Sanada-kun was making a ruckus in the practice room! It just goes to show if X-san does something to someone, we're all going to be affected! There are more complaints, but they're too many to discuss at the moment. ...Any idea who the culprit is, men?"

"I say it's Takizawa-kun," Myuto says from his corner of the room. "We never found out what he did last time." Hagiya chokes on the cookie he stole from Camu and Jesse, and someone performs the heimlich maneuver on him.

"He doesn't terrorize anyone," Juri scowls. "Nii-chan told me he doesn't. Takizawa-kun—"

"...I don't really want to hear it." Myuto covers his ears and grimaces.

"Oh well, we'll just dwell on that tomorrow. Does anybody want to raise any more issues?"

"W-well..." Jesse stutters, looking from side to side. "I-I really think we should be leaving soon. I...I don't really want to get kicked out of another dressing room!" Juri tells him everything's going to be okay and hands him a flat iron for reassurance. Jesse just stares at it with a raised eyebrow.

“You shouldn't have placed your own sign over the A.B.C-Z sign,” Miyata says after barging into the dressing room, handing Juri a piece of paper with HHJ detective agency FTW, yo written on it with green highlighter. “We almost missed the room!"

“Oh, you've already got the flat iron.” Senga glances at Jesse, who bows as low as he can and gives him the said iron. Senga hands it back to him and says it would fit into their plan.

“...Who knew Senga-kun had the ability to plan anything?” Juri asks all of his groupmates after leaving the A.B.C-Z dressing room, not wanting to witness the thing that was occurring.

"What kind of name is Chaos,” Burn growls, stomping along the agency hallway. “I still say we should’ve been named Burn.”

"Burn is a stupid name for anything," Gazel replies. "I don’t even want to be grouped with you in the first place; Diamond Dust was good enough on its own, we shouldn’t have had to disband.”

"Well you were disbanded, that just shows that it wasn’t good enough."

"If you hadn’t noticed, Prominence was disbanded too.”

"… Chaos is still a dumb name.”

"If it helps," Gouenji pitches in, overhearing when heading out of Inazuma All-Stars’ rehearsal to get a drink of water. “He was considering naming you Gran.”

They agree that Chaos is a good enough name. (“Congratulations on the formation of Chaos!” Hiroto announces at his own band’s next concert, gesturing to the pair seated in the guest box of Tokyo Dome. “Please treat them kindly, and support them as a group!” The crowd goes wild as he shoots them another dazzling smile—something the fans dub as Photon Flash, and counting the number of people who nearly fall down while swooning has become something of a game for everyone.

"Tch, is he looking down on us?" Burn glares at Hiroto, but it goes unnoticed.

"Our debut single better outsell his," Gazel says irritably.)   "Having a group must be nice," Tachimukai says to Tsunami over one break as they sit by the vending machines. "Congratulations on BBBB, Tsunami-san!"

"The costumes are weird," Tsunami says after contemplating for a few seconds. Truthfully, Tsunami’s not the best at dancing or singing, but he’s the ocean man surfer type that’s gradually getting popular with girls, and the agency had decided that debuting him would serve as a good business move. “And the dances are weird too. And I don’t like singing, I just wanna surf!”

"Eh," Tachimukai blinks. "Don’t you have a beach-themed shoot tomorrow?" When he sees the wide grin that spreads across the other boy’s face he doesn’t have the heart to tell him that Fuyuka—BBBB’s manager—had been given strict instructions to keep him out of the water. Last time he’d been at a beach shoot, he’d destroyed a good amount of expensive equipment; it’s not something people like talking about.

"… Being debuted is great, Tachimukai," Tsunami concludes. "I’ll help you out!"

Tachimukai just smiles nervously.

"It’s my face," Endou says in awe as he holds up an uchiwa of… well, his face. It’s kind of awkward, but it’s a sure sign that he and his group are getting popular. At this point, it’s undeniable that they are the company’s flagship group.

"You should be used to it by now," Kidou says, looking through the concert photosets with little interest. "We’ve just gotten our 6th consecutive #1 single."

"Well I’m not used to having to dress in drag all the time," Kazemaru says grumpily, picking at his kimono. "Who cares if it’s New Year! You’d think they’d hire some women for once…”

"It’s not that bad," Fubuki chimes in. "I think it’s funny. Right, Gouenji-kun?"

Gouenji’s busy making uchiwas of Yuuka.

(“But it’s not her concert, Gouenji-sa—” Toramaru tries to say but Gouenji glares at him.) Yuuka always goes to her older brother’s concerts. When asked who her favourite member of the Inazuma All-stars is:

"Of course, it’s Fubuki-san!"

Kidou tries to tell Gouenji that it’s okay because Haruna doesn’t like their group at all, but that’s only because she considers them as rivals, being the manager of Tachimukai and the other juniors.

"But that’s because onii-chan is always cool," Yuuka will say afterwards, climbing onto her older brother’s lap. "No one needs to say what’s obvious!" Hiroto’s group is popular enough and his friendly rivalry with the All-Stars is well known, but what is a secret is the fact that he always preorders a couple of both limited and regular edition copies, along with buying more at different record stores all over Tokyo.

Shindou's cat doesn't like Kirino. It never has, and neither has Kirino ever liked the animal either. It is as if they have a mutual agreement—Kirino occupies the right side of the couch, cat occupies the rest of the mansion; never walk on the same side of the hallway; only one can have Shindou's attention at a time; and so on and so forth.

"Oh, it's your cat," Kirino says blandly when he enters Shindou's room, spotting the devil animal in an undesirable place. "It's on the right side of the couch."

("His name is Gieseking," Shindou will always scowl. "Not cat. Gieseking."

"How do you even pronounce that?" Kirino will always ask as a reply.)

"You can sit on the left," his friend replies, thumbing through his folders and looking for the math homework they'd been assigned for the day. "You can sit anywhere, you know that."

"Tell your cat that," he thinks as he nudges it awake. It hisses and claws at him, but Kirino simply pushes it to the left. "My seat," he says, bringing out his own homework.

Shindou scratches the back of the cat's ears as it curls up in his lap. "He can't understand you, you know."

"... He understands me more than you think," he says, and Kirino swears that if the cat could smirk it would be doing just that and Shindou just makes a mental note to keep a better eye on his best friend.

 Today, Akane thinks, Today's the day I'll visit Shin-sama at the hospital.

It's not as if she hasn't visited him before—of course she's visited with the team, and all other times she'd gone with Kirino. However, today she's decided to go alone.

Alone, the mere thought of it makes her heart flutter and stomach do flips as she slowly walks along the hallway. Her grip on her camera is tight, though right now its purpose isn't for taking pictures (she's in a hospital, for pete's sake!), but more of a safety blanket. Akane doesn't even notice that she's already in front of his room door.

She places her hand on the knob.

She lets go of it.

She grips it again.

And she lets go.

She leans against the wall and slides down, because her heart is beating faster than ever and her face is probably already very, very red. She goes through the pictures in her camera—only the ones of Shindou, and tries to calm herself down before going to see the actual person.

The doorknob turns and the door creaks as it opens, and Akane stands up so quickly and almost runs away if it isn't for the fact that it's the nurse and not the captain.

"Are you here to visit Shindou-kun? He's asleep right now," Fuyuka smiles at her, "But you can stay here and wait for him to wake up." She gestures to the seat located at Shindou's bedside, but Akane's face immediately flushes and she shakes her head. "I'll just come back another time, I don't want to wake him..." 

(In reality, she's too embarrassed to see his sleeping face. Midori had volunteered to come with her just in case this situation would arise, but Akane is sure that having her friend with her wouldn't make any difference. Really. They've been through this before.)

"Do you want me to tell him you visited?" Akane's eyes widen and she shakes her head once again, bowing to show thanks and dashing away. Fuyuka laughs; she rarely sees that kind of behaviour in a hospital, and the girl had not at all seemed like the type to have run off. She sees a pink camera on the ground and picks it up, when she hears a groan from inside the hospital room.

"Shindou-kun," she says. "Awake already?"

"It's Yamana's..." he says groggily, gesturing at the camera in her hands.

"Your girlfriend?"

Aki-nee's peanut butter is the best, Tenma always says, but then again he's always thought that everything his relative makes is delicious. Not too smooth nor too chunky, with perfect amounts of honey and sea salt and—

His stomach grumbles, and he's not even halfway to the soccer clubroom yet.

After the nice lady who they buy peanuts from told him that peanut butter is good for growing boys (it's gotta be true, he thinks, because she's always there for his games and she loves soccer too, and anyone who is like that must not be lying!), he had asked Aki to pack in some extra sandwiches for his team. (He's wanted the team to try them before, but he had made the very unwise decision to put the sandwiches in his bookbag. Tenma swears that he doesn't know how his bag ended up under his butt, he really does) They could use the extra boost for the next match, especially if they want to be the very best like no one ever was, after all!

"Aki-nee made some peanut butter," he says excitedly when it's time for a break, flailing his arms. "And the nice lady at the store said that they're good for soccer-playing boys, so I brought some peanut butter sandwiches! If Aki-nee made the peanut butter, I made the sandwiches, heh." He sets the boxes on top of the bench and beams at everyone, beckoning them to come closer.

No one steps forward.

"Ehh, Aki can make peanut butter too?" Coach Endou's eyes widen when he notices his team's slightly hostile atmosphere. "Can I have one?" Endou misses good food, and he doesn't care if it's just a peanut butter sandwich, he hasn't actually had a proper meal for about three days. Tenma nods excitedly and hands him one of the plastic-wrapped sandwiches, which Endou takes gratefully before unwrapping and taking a bite out of.

"It's really good," Endou says with a mouthful of peanut butter sandwich. "You should try it, it really is good for you!"

"There aren't really a lot of proven health benefits from peanut butte—" Haruna stops talking because the look Endou is sending her is screaming THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO GET THEM TO BOND mixed with I REALLY NEED TO EAT (but mostly the latter), so she just keeps quiet and tries to hand the sandwiches out.

"I'm allergic to peanut butter," Hayami says, waving his hands in a flustered manner when the teacher tries to give him a sandwich. (That, and he doesn't trust anything made by Tenma, but no one really needs to know that.)

"This would make good fish bait," Hamano grins, grabbing a couple of extra sandwiches and stuffing them into his shorts. "Oi Hayami, let's go fishing later!"

"I'm allergi—"

"I don't want any," Kurama says bluntly, and he hands the sandwich given to him to Amagi, who's on his fourth sandwich already.

"It's delicious," he says in between bites, "I don't understand why you don't want any!"

"Don't be a loser, Kurama," Kurumada elbows the boy in the side while biting into his own sandwich.

"Hmph."

"Don't be a spoilsport," Shindou laughs as he receives his own sandwich from Akane. "I'm sure Tenma knows how to make a sandwich. Besides," he bites into the food, "It really is good."

"I'll have one too," Kirino says, reaching forward to grab one, because of Shindou says it's good, then he can probably trust it. (Keyword is probably.) Kirino kind of reminds Tenma of a watermelon, and it makes him laugh a little because he thinks of watermelon-peanut butter sandwiches. That wouldn't taste very good, he thinks to himself, and the grin on his face makes Kirino look at him suspiciously.

Did Matsukaze put anything in this ... !?

(Then again, after Kariya's arrival, Kirino's been kind of suspicious about everything, so it's best not to listen to him right now.)

Kirino's busy thinking so Kariya eats his sandwich.

"You didn't cover yourself in peanut butter while making these, did you?" Tsurugi asks with a raised eyebrow when his fellow first year pushes a sandwich into his hands. Tenma shakes his head hands him a couple more. "Take some for your brother too!" Tsurugi smiles a little and nods as the other moves on to hand out food to Shinsuke and Aoi.

"Your Aki-nee's cooking is as good as ever," Sangoku smiles. "Even if it is just peanut butter."

"It's not just the peanut butter, it's Tenma's sandwich-making skills too of course," Midori smirks, patting the younger boy on the back.

"I'm sure Aki-nee'll be happy from the compliments," Tenma is pleased, he can't help but feel pride swell in his chest when he hears someone compliment his relative's cooking.

"Onii-san," Haruna says, handing her older brother a sandwich. Kidou's never really liked peanut butter because it always gets stuck to the roof of his mouth and he's not really fond of the feeling, but he'll make an exception this time. "Thank you," he grins, but he notices the time and claps his hands.

"Back to practice!"
