She was born to a family of wealth, her father being known for the finest pearls around. His love of the ocean didn’t stop there, having fallen in love with a siren herself, who gave birth to a baby girl Rochelle. It was his wife that actually showed him where the pearls were in the first place since she was able to dive down deeper than the average human. Once their daughter was born she turned her life to motherhood and her husband built their business. Rochelle was their only child which meant she was spoiled rotten. Her mother frequently referred to her as a mini me because not only was she the spitting image of her mother but also possessed the same tail when she was in the water. Shelly grew up comfortable in her skin, even though she was different than many of her peers, she saw it as something that made her better. That didn’t mean she couldn’t keep a secret, Shelly knowing the danger that being different came with on the Isle. All of her time in the water was spent alone or at least, originally it started that way. That was until one day when she was singing to herself while floating off shore she caught the attention of a fisherman. Even though he wasn’t anywhere near her he could hear her voice, drawn to it, and unable to keep himself from following. Shelly dove beneath the water before he saw anything but started to put the pieces together as to what all she was capable of.
Her mother began to explain what all it was that came along with their tail, including a voice that could lure in those that they wanted, that actually being how she met Shelly’s father in the first place. It had all been calculated by her mother who was far more intelligent than people saw, her being the one that held most of the power in their company as well. The same one that eventually Shelly would get control of when she was ready. As far as she is concerned she doesn’t care much for the jewelry business but knows it’s her best bet for a bright future. Instead, she’s on the hunt for someone who can help run it with her, just like her mother found in her father. Even though she doesn’t always use her powers to draw men in, knowing she is pretty enough to do it the old-fashioned way, she enjoys the rush and can’t help herself. If it was up to her she’d become a ballerina and never live another day on the Isle, having lived there her entire life. That also meant that she became quite familiar with many of the other residents with a particular interest in any of those who are magic. Peter Pan was one of the first people she met who was different and it became second nature to flirt with him. It seemed she wasn’t the only one, having taken a disliking to Wendy from the moment they were introduced, siding with Tink instead. Besides, she knew nothing real was going to come of that but enjoyed the option as she does with many things. The same being said for Smee who is her most frequent hookup. She’s never needed to use her power on him and that’s why she comes back. He continues to spend time around her even after knowing what kind of person she is at heart. Still, Shelly doesn’t plan on committing to him or ever letting him get any closer than that. She is looking for a husband to help her run her father’s business one day but that doesn’t mean she can’t have fun along the way. For now, she works at The Underworld as a dancer with the hopes that maybe one day the right person will see her skill and take her far away from this place that’s become like a prison.
