i need to yap abt helter skelter before i go watch whiplash because my brain is stuck on it and i need to get my thoughts out rn or i will explode because i absolutely loved this movie so much its literally on my top 4 movies now it completely blew my mind, first of all i need to give a massive warning to everyone because i do NOT recommend watching zero day and helter skelter right after each other under any circumstances like please protect your mental stability bc watching those back to back is literal psychological torture, i was watching helter skelter in the middle of the night and i swear i felt like i was going insane bc the whole atmosphere is just so incredibly intense and overwhelming but at the end of the day i just dozed off and had to finish it in the morning, and honestly one thing i have to say is that japanese directors are never failing to make me feel confused like they just know exactly how to push the boundaries of psychological horror and surrealism to a point where you dont even know what is real anymore and it made my body shiver and my skin crawl in the worst and most unpleasant way possible but i was still so utterly obsessed with it, the entire movie feels like it is the elder sister of the neon demon and the substance like they are all part of this perfect holy trinity of unhinged psychological body horror about the toxic entertainment industry and the agonizing obsession with youth and beauty but helter skelter is just the absolute blueprint, if you love the neon demon and the substance you will see so many parallels with lilicos character and how she is literally rotting from the inside out bc of all the extreme plastic surgery and the industry is just draining her soul until there is nothing left, it has that exact same hyper stylized colorful beautiful aesthetic that masks something incredibly sinister and grotesque underneath and the way it explores her mental breakdown is so raw, lilico is just so deeply unhinged, narcissistic and abusive to everyone (esp to hada) but you also cant help but feel this immense dread watching her lose her grip on reality as her body starts failing her and everyone around her is just using her like a product until she becomes obsolete, the visuals are just so loud and claustrophobic with all the red tones and the constant flashing lights and the paparazzi noises and it completely traps you in her deteriorating psyche which is exactly why it makes your skin crawl so bad because you feel the actual madness of her world pressing down on you, it is just a masterpiece of psychological horror and it captures that exact same sickening but mesmerizing vibe as the substance where the pursuit of perfection becomes your literal demise and i am just so obsessed with how deeply uncomfortable it made me feel the entire time, it is just so rare to find a movie that can be simultaneously beautiful and so utterly repulsive and confusing but that is just what makes japanese cinema so unmatched because they are never afraid to go all the way into the deepest darkest parts of human vanity and madness, so yeah it is officially going in my top 4 and i am so glad i watched it even if it completely ruined my sleep schedule and made me feel like i was losing my mind in the dark but now i need to clear my head before i start watching whiplash because ik that one is going to be another intense ride

me and my hb just finished watching zero day on rave and im actually so sick to my stomach rn like i cannot even begin to describe the sheer discomfort running through my veins, i have been reading up on the found footage genre all day today because the whole concept of it has been interesting to me lately but absolutely nothing could have prepared me for this specific movie, it didnt even feel like watching a movie at all it literally felt like watching a real life snuff movie or something terrible you stumble upon in the deepest darkest corners of the internet that you are instantly going to regret seeing for the rest of your life, the grainy vhs tape quality and the complete lack of any cinematic elements or background music made it feel so intrusive and disgusting to the point where i felt like i was committing a literal crime just by having it on my screen, i was just sitting there shocked bc the realism of it is so disturbing it makes you feel like an accomplice to whatever these two freaks are planning just by being a viewer and can we talk about how much i absolutely despised them bc i hated both cal and andre so much but omg i hated andre with a burning passion, the entire time i was watching them interact i just kept getting this overwhelming vibe that andre was the real driving force behind every single horrific thing they did and cal was just completely influenced and manipulated by him, andre just had this disgusting, arrogant, narcissistic energy where he thought he was some kind of philosophical mastermind or god who could decide who lives and dies and it made me want to punch him through the screen every time he opened his mouth, you can literally see the power dynamic between them if you look closely and it is so clear that cal was just getting pulled into andres twisted reality because he wanted to belong or because he was too weak to stand up to him and just got completely consumed by andres toxic influence, cal is obviously completely guilty too and i hated him for going along with it but watching the way andre took the lead and fed into cals vulnerabilities made the whole thing ten times more infuriating to watch because you see how easily a manipulative psycho can drag someone else down into hell with him, since i was literally reading about how found footage works earlier today it made me analyze the whole structure of the movie even more and honestly the way they utilized the cameras just amplified that feeling of watching a real snuff tape, they just walk around with this camera like it is a normal teenager diary but they are casually discussing the most depraved and violent plans like they are talking about what they want for dinner or what video games they want to play, that contrast is what makes it so sickening because there are no horror tropes or jump scares to detach you from the reality of it so you are just trapped in a bedroom with these two normal looking boys who have completely detached themselves from humanity and the fact that they look so ordinary makes it worse because you realize people like andre actually exist in the real world, just hiding behind a facade of normalcy while manipulating the people around them into doing horrible things. let me post my yappie.
