so, yeah. why genderbends are transphobic as explained by your Local Trans NB. not only do genderswaps erase the existence of every non-cisgender/NB identity, they also perpetuate shitty stereotypes about how women and men “should be” portrayed. “but i want to know how x character looks in a dress/suit/short/long hair/etc!” gendered clothes & hairstyles don’t exist. dresses are not exclusive to women. short hair is not exclusive to men. you want to draw someone with short hair? do it. there’s literally NO reason for you to genderswap a character just to put them in different clothing. “x character wouldn’t like wearing a dress because he’s a man!” people don’t magically gain an entirely different personality when you genderswap them. making a male character into a female doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll enjoy having longer hair and wearing dresses.

“i want to know how they would deal with having a period!” first of all, uh. ok. lmao. but literally.. just make them trans. men get periods.

these are all deeply harmful to many members of the trans community and personally, seeing it on my dash makes me sick. i’m aware that certain trans folk feel differently regarding this issue, and if you’re personally not bothered by genderswaps, you do you. this post is not for you.

i’m not here to be the Nasty Mean SJW Gatekeeper and frankly i have zero interest in arguing with users about why they think this is Okay, nor do i have the least amount of desire in personally attacking/sending hate to users who engage in these thoughts. at the end of the day, i’m realize that a lot of you simply aren’t aware of these issues and i’d simply like to ask you to read this and think critically of your actions, and maybe listen to trans voices instead of speaking over us, especially if you’re cis.
