"No one will ever escape me"

I feel like we all really underestimate just how hard to use the seven swords of the mist truly are. Something that always really bugged me was this idea in fanon that anyone could pick one of the swords up and instantly be an incredible swordsman with skilled kenjutsu.

Suigetsu being able to wield one makes sense because it’s implied he’s already trained in kenjutsu, it’s a family thing considering his brother so he’s well informed, it’s his goal in Naruto (I dunno wtf he does in Boruto) to oneday lead and resurrect the order of the seven swordsman. Plus he’s got that whole water thing so his body is unique.

For one example. The executioner’s blade Kubikiribōchō is said to be incredibly heavy. Part of why Zabuza was considered the greatest wielder over the likes of Juzo and the previous generations was because he could swing it around without getting tired (plus oni chakra but we don’t know wtf that’s about lmao). Zabuza was absolutely jacked and had huge physical strength in order to be able to wield it so effortlessly.

Nuibari the long sword sewing needle with wire acting as the thread. Kushimaru is  213 cm / 7 ft canonically. Nuibari still looks long in his grasp and is almost the same height as him in both the manga and anime. So if you’re average or shorter height you’d have to know how to use a piercing weapon that might be longer than you are tall. A lot of people who draw their oc’s with it make it way too small to try and size the sword to the character like nah it’s huge and wielded by a huge man. I also imagine you can and will cut yourself on the wire if you’re not careful if like the anime shows it is able to severe limbs.

Also something that drives me crazy about the anime filler (even tho I love Kushimaru’s episode despite its flaws cause they made him a giggling madman who pokes fun at his comrade) is that they animated Kushimaru swinging Nuibari like a proper sword. If it’s truly a needle then its sides aren’t sharp? It’s a round blade with a pointed tip. Kushimaru would thrust with it, not swing. But I get that the filler probably was rushed and probably had a lower budget and that nobody probably cared enough to look at proper sword refs for his type of weapon fklsa I mean there’s a random useless Kakashi and Guy flashback to add more padding so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And Shibuki the exploding blade is like. Obviously if you fuck up with that one you’ll kill your allies and yourself. Possibly accidentally blow your arm off. But even if you’re safe about the amount of exploding tags you use, you still need to learn how to combine explosives and swordsmanship in an effective way. Because otherwise the sword isn’t actually a blade, it’s like a giant tag holder/dispenser :v. Could still totally bludgeon people to death with it tho don’t get me wrong. Jinpachi gonna explode your guts or break your bones and crush your organs, pick one. 

Also I know it might be too realistic but I imagine Jinpachi and the other previous wielders of Shibuki would suffer from at least some hearing loss. Irl they’d probably be totally deaf from the constant explosions happening around them but at the very least in Naruto he must have been a little affected by it? I can believe in magic exploding swords but I draw the line at Jinpachi not having any sort of hearing loss or side affect from his weapon.

and that’s just three but the others are much the same. I mean Samehada is literally alive and basically betrayed Kisame (I mean I know he did a whole switchero thing but the sword still choose Bee).

I do believe you could learn to wield the sword and train and that some people are more compatible with certain blades than others. Like I don’t imagine Kushimaru could wield Kubikiribōchō that easily but Kakashi using it for a time makes sense to me cause Kakashi does seem strong, ignoring anime filler, I don’t believe he had the executioner’s blade for long because he probably wouldn’t have Zabuza’s strength and stamina to keep swinging it and carrying it around continuously without breaks.

Like even Suigetsu needed practice and time with Kubikiribōchō.

And it speaks to how insanely skilled Mangetsu was as a shinobi that he was able to wield all seven. The fact that he died with four on him and apparently his corpse was never recovered? or was stolen? not clear on that part.

I just think about all the random characters that have no kenjutsu training who in fan stuff just pick up one of the seven swords and is like ‘I’m a master swordsman now’. like you gotta at least have some training and be compatible for the blade you’re wielding. ya know? altho no one cares but losers like me lol.

Ringo always felt like home, maybe it was the similarities between them? DoYoung shrugged it off as her chin laid against the other woman’s shoulder, her fingers flipping a piece of hair about. “I miss the sun-” when was the last time they had a sunny day in Kiri?

She stops messing with a kunai and turns her attention to Do, Ameyuri really hadn’t thought much about it recently, sure she’s a couple minor missions here and there, but nothing requiring her leave for a while.

“I miss the sun too…”

“I haven’t no- I usually end up going to the villages close by because my clan is keeping tabs. I’ve been to Konoha though!” She hated to admit it but she lived a rather sheltered life even when it came down to her work. If she wasn’t going out on a mission with Kushimaru then, then she had to stay on the radar. 

Ameyuri couldn’t help but let out a tiny chuckle at Do’s last remark, she had been to the other countries plenty of times before, but she enjoyed going back to the Land of Lightning, “Yeah it’s dry, I remember when my Sensei took us over there long ago, we were moving through a mountainous area and I felt like I couldn’t breathe..".
