I mean yeah, I guess technically this race hasn't been boring. But it wouldn't be boring if they tried to hold a Formula 1 race over a field of landmines. 'Not boring' isn't always the same as 'good'.

It feels sort of pointless, because they've just signed up for several more years of it. But... I do wonder how much longer the folks at the top can go on desperately pretending Formula hasn't massive outgrown what Monaco is capable of supporting in terms of infrastructure.
I usually roll my eyes at the '[so-and-so team] is sabotaging [so-and-so driver]' conspiracy theories. But I'm honestly starting to wonder about Mercedes and Russell.
EVERY year it's 'will this be the year Monaco isn't a boring pointless parade to the chequered flag?!' and every year it's even worse than I expected. I don't give a shit how 'romantic' and 'historic' the tax evaders yacht club is, you will never get me to like this stupid race.

Genuinely the funniest I've ever found Max. The completely straight-faced expression makes it.

ferrari is not an underdog. it has never been and will never be an underdog. it is quite honestly the exact opposite of an underdog. the reason they've flopped in recent years is because of their massive fucking ego which is directly related to the fact they are in no shape or form an underdog lmao
another generational max dotd graphic
For real though, they should get rid of Driver of the Day. It's gotten ridiculous. And that's the fault of the fans, not the drivers, but it is still all too frequently embarrassing.
I'm not even a Mercedes fan (god their dominant run between 2014 and 2020 was boring) but I do think it's quite funny that all the Ferrari fans on Twitter are so convinced they have to be cheating with an illegal engine, and that the FIA is bending over backwards to cover it up. Because the last time a team was absolutely definitely caught cheating with an illegal engine, it was Ferrari, back in 2019. And the FIA bent over backwards to cover it up.
It is properly weird how the whole Formula 1 fandom is behaving like we're looking down the barrel of the last three races of the season, when we're actually just three races into the damn thing. It's barely started.
right, ok, haha teehee Max insisted on a journalist being thrown out of the press conference before he'd talk. must be one of the bad guys, right? [Padme meme]
no. it's Giles Richards. he's the Guardian's F1 correspondent. Giles is one of a tiny handful of F1 journalists with any frickin principles at all and a tiny percentage of people in motorsport who's left wing.
it's literally just Max taking affront that he got asked exactly the same sort of question anyone else gets asked when they lose a championship ('do you regret a mistake that cost you points, now') Lando got asked the same thing, pretty brutally, the previous year. Lewis was even asked it in 2021 re: Baku. this is a normal fucking question.
throwing Giles out of a press conference months later is child behaviour. if Max can't take a tough (but very much predictable) question then, well, maybe time to spend six months psychoanalysing whether his head is cooked.*
there are so many genuinely bad guys in that room - like let's just take one example here but literally everyone in the F1 paddock knows who Adam Cooper is. he actually advertises the teenage girl modelling agency he runs on the back window of his car for the European rounds. he has been credibly accused of grooming and is publicly and loudly vile to any woman he meets. he's still in the fucking presser though isn't he!
*I don't think anyone should do this. but as an example of really quite unpleasant stuff he was not asked and other drivers put up with fairly serenely this is, y'know. quite a big one last year.

remember folks: anger is masculine and therefore not an emotion, making it permissible in the popular f1 arena
Oh yeah, nothing has more convinced me that Max is totally unbothered about having unwittingly thrown away a championship because he lost his temper, than him chucking a journalist out of a press conference for having dared ask him about it several months ago now. Definitely the behaviour of an unbothered person.
I need to be sedated
He said Nico's name unprompted. He said Nico's name in a positive context. It's been a solid decade, and it's finally happened.
I wonder if Verstappen crashing out instantly decreases the pressure on everyone else. Like swimming in the ocean knowing the resident Great White was recently harpooned.
I knew the problems at Aston Martin were bad. Never in a million years did I think they were 'the drivers will get serious nerve damage if they drive the car a third of the race distance' bad.

While I'm thrilled that Hannah Schmitz and Laura Mueller are getting a turn named after them, the irony of them having to a share a turn rather than each getting their own is not lost on me. Or that it seems that the turn name will be temporary for one Grand Prix only.
I'm gonna be honest, it doesn't bother me that they're sharing the turn or that it's temporary. Schmitz and Muller are trailblazers, no doubt about it. But they're pitwall staff. I fear quite a lot of casual F1 fans don't know who they are, just like they don't know who any of the pitwall staff are, save perhaps the team principals (and even then, they probably don't know for the backmarker teams). When a corner or straight is finally named for a woman, permanently, let it be for the first female world champion. Let it at least be for the first female Grand Prix winner.
