First of all, I always hoped Iβd never have to make a post like thisβ¦ ugh I really hoped Hudcon would fully break the mold and surprise us all with their level of openness. And they have in many ways, but nothing is perfect. Alas, welcome to the realities of closeting in the entertainment industry! Sorry we all have to be here. Most of you know by now that I got my start in fandom through Larry. And honestly tonight I feel a profound sense of Deja Vu. I had a whole post about Hudson and Connor and their time at the Met Gala and what it all means, and that post will be coming in the morning! But Hudsonβs little quote here made me want to make some edits to my speculation on their future plans. However, first up tonight, class is in session!
K is not going away any time soon. I said weβd see her again and we definitely will. She is being used as buffer and until Hudson and Connor decide to come out, she (or another buffer) will likely be there. Itβs unfortunate but thatβs how it works. If Connor and Hudson want to be loud, then they need someone to dampen the noise.
Hudson and Connor want to be out. You know how I know that? They show it. The thing I think most people donβt like to hear is that fans are not making things up. My mutuals and I have said this countless times. We are talking about verifiable events, quotes, behaviors not fanfictions weβve dreamt up in our minds.
This type of fandom life is hard. It sucks sometimes. Itβs obviously fun to analyze and look at Hudcon being cute, and support them in their endeavors etc. but you will probably sound crazy to people, and you have to be okay with that.
Keep it in fandom spaces. Donβt @ them, donβt tag them, donβt message them. Especially not their friends and family. If Hudson and Connor want to look up rpf stuff about themselves, they are free to do so. Iβve seen @afro-star say this before too: they have to speak up more when you push them. Donβt do it. Having us talking about them can either make them feel supported or push them into denying it over and over again, letβs not make it harder than it has to be, deal?
Last but not least, as long as cognitive dissonance like the one today has created exists, you are not crazy. My philosophy for when people say βstop shippingβ etc. is: put your money where your mouth is. Maybe thatβs harsh, but itβs true. If Hudson truly wanted us to stop rpfing completely, then he would stop providing the fuel, the content that makes him and Connor so obvious. Until he does that, one comment on a threads post he probably had to go searching for isnβt going to convince me of much.
I will answer your asks about this and continue to talk more as I go through everything tonight, but I wanted to get this out there. If you were talking about Hudcon in a personal/fandom only, respectful manner, nothing has to change. Hudsonβs statement was a warning. It will only get worse for us and them if we continue down this path of pushing it onto them constantly, and so blatantly. The more we talk about it in non-hudcon spaces the more the public, the majority of HR fans, the industry, their teams, etc. see it. And the more Hudson and Connor have to address it. Donβt make them go down that road, I can promise you itβs not fun for anyone.
