It's getting frustrating how many people are getting mad at what Dana Terrace said (and didn't say).
First of all, when I first watched the pilot, I didn't see Frankie as a trans woman for the simple fact that her child self was seen as a girl called "Francesca". I highly doubt an exploited programmed android that is supposed to be child friendly, would know what a kid's "preferred" name would be. Guinevere literally stated her government name and home district. So the pilot therefore confirmed Frankie was born a girl.
Secondly, Dana Terrace is not a trans women, obviously. However, she's also not transphobic. I have heard tclaims that she is starting to get compared to JK Rowling (that transphobic and racist fuck? Really?) And with that, I then realized the whole thing feels blown out of proportion.
She did not say that it was "bad" to see Frankie as trans, on fact nothinv has even implied that she did. She never said it was wrong to headcanon Frankie as such or identify with her. In fact, even Michaela Laws, Frankie's own VA said this...
If Frankie's own va is encouraging people to identify with Frankie, why are people doubting Dana, the women who fought tooth and nail to have a canonical wlw relationship be in a conservative companies show, will did indeed be encouraging people to see Frankie however they want as well? You have to realize that Dana is a cis woman, with two other directors by her side. There are stories she is ready to tell and stories she needs a clear understanding to get into. It was very clear she was writing Frankie in the lense of just a overweight butch women. It's already bad for cis women to be accepted as tomboyish and overweight without getting ridiculed of being less desirable to be see onscreen. And this was only a pilot, that alreadg had a lot to unpack about woman and feminism already.
It can be implied Dana wasn't ready to talk about a perspective she at least thought she had no idea was like. Nothing I've seen from the angry posts has told me Dana had a problem with trans woman or people even seeing Frankie as transfem.
Would it be cool if Frankie canonically was transfem? Abso-fucking-lutely! Does the intentions still make Terrace out as transmisogynistic, even unintentionallh, maybe. But lets be real here, this world is still has a long way to bo from unlearning how to let go of hating trans people and accepting them to exist.
Plus, if that was the case, the whole fandom is unintentionally racist to not give the same love and treatment towards Andi as they are to a white woman.
Dana made a mistake, a simple fucking mistake. One with good or at least descent intentions, and with the ignorance that is far less horrifying than the fuck Jk Rowling's got going on. Demonizing Ms. Terrace and losing faith in her is not going to change her intentions nor should it because the damage has alreadg been done.
Dana Terrace was simply surprised people connected Frankie in a way she didn't intended. And honestly what good would it serve for her to not say anything. If she didn't, I'm sure people would wind up angry because she then would have "lied" and "betrayed" ya'll. So then you would have been proving that Dana Terrace would be in a lose lose situation for something as simple as writing a cis women.
Tldr: Dana making a simple clarification does not mean she hates trans people
