KZ100 Hammer Build

This was actually sketchier than the video makes it look. The hill is fairly steep but with a good headstart we got the job done.

An update to the KZ100 hammer I've been building. I was running into air issues with my current compressor. It's a Ingersol Rand 5hp compressor rated at 18.1cfm at 90 psi. It handles the air required from the hammer but it was cycling way more than I wanted it to. At the same time I had the head gasket go out. Luckily after replacing the gasket the compressor was back up and running better than ever ( may have been a leak between the two cylinders for quite a while) I bought a secondhand 80 gallon tank rated up to 200psi and mounted it as close to the hammer but still out of the way. So the current air setup is this - 30 feet of 1/2" line from the compressor to the auxiliary tank.  I then plumbed a 3/4" line directly from the auxiliary tank to the KZ. The 3/4" line is about 6' long so it has plenty of air as close as possible for big gulps of air. Total air capacity is upgraded from 60 gallons to 140 gallons. I set the compressor to start compressing at 95psi and stop at 135. This has really made a difference in the cycling of my poor compressor and the end result is the hammer is happy and working like a champ!

Painted the last bits than needed painting. Fixed all the air leaks in the black pipe. Moved the air compressor out of the way and hooked up to the air line off the wall. Just a few bolts to replace on the guide frame and this guy is done!

This is the borrowed compressor I’m using. I’m upgrading my own compressor so this one is filling in for now. 

Rounded off the corners. Probably could have gone further but I want to use them awhile and see how they work before removing more.

First try at the new hammer. Still working out a few small bugs but overall it’s working really well. 

Welding is done. I’ve fired it up just to make sure everything is aligned as expected but the hardest part is I need to wait two more weeks for the concrete to set up before I really get after it. It’s going to be a struggle just looking at this in the corner and not using it. 

Sow block is leveled - 0 daylight between the dies. Next step is welding ithe sow block and ram head.  

Assembling all the parts and making adjustments. I still need to level and weld the sow block and weld the ram head in place. But it’s beginning to look like a hammer!
