I’m gonna try to explain this best I can please bear with me. But. I find it fascinating that tom usually gets grouped in with betty draper, carmela soprano, skyler white etc and shiv with their spouses (who are the critically acclaimed toxic male protagonists) because of their characterizations. I get that. but the audience reception of betty carmela skyler and SHIV are more similar (misogyny/people who can’t handle when female characters have flaws and are complex) while tom is getting praised and loved left and right like walter, don and tony (“oh my goddddd this complex deep male character and his angst and psyche yaaassss!!!!”)

terrifying when you watch a movie or a show or whatever & youre like that was fun but it felt a little redundant they didnt need to hammer the point home that much & then you go online & theres thousands of people going that was so weird i did not get it what did that mean google.com ending explained please?

sometimes the way people talk about beauty standards makes it very clear that the only form of violent punishment for ugliness they can imagine is like, an afterschool special style hate crime with boogie men jumping out of the bushes as you walk down the street and not the much more common, much more mundane, and equally life threatening scenario of eg being denied a job because you don't pass or you have visible dental problems or you're fat &c &c. similar issues pop up in discussions of censorship that rely on the image of like pitchfork-wielding mob violence besieging a person's picturesque white picket fenced home, rather than what is again a much more common mechanism of speech control wherein your employer is the person who de facto enforces standards of socially allowable speech by simply firing you and also making you unhireable thru word of mouth, shitty references, &c. always worth interrogating the image & conception of 'violence' & the intersection of social death and economic mechanisms of ensuring actual death

reading a good interesting book after a horrible reading slump and suddenly you can feel the sun shining again and the sky is more beautiful than ever and birds are all singing songs to you
