#project hail mary #prev:#for context on the argument:#they are arguing over the idea of making a beetle to send to erid in case something goes wrong on the trip there #grace wants to make one for contingency’s sake #but rocky doesn’t even want to consider the possibility that they might not make it to erid #he feels like if he accepts something going wrong as a possibility than he will jinx the trip #or somehow manifest something bad happening #but he’s nervous to admit such an illogical thought pattern to grace #cause he’s supposed to be the most logical and rational member of the duo #so instead they argue about it #rocky will explain his feelings a few hours later and they will hug it out

My contribution to the eridian welcoming committee adorable chaos is that at some point Grace receives a letter that actually makes sense in English. Like it's polite, well-written and would make sense as a welcoming card. And he's so confused. What happened to the cards accidentally suggesting they wanted him to go to hell or something? What if they're actually trying to be mean this time and it came out nicely? He gets Rocky over who tells him they worked very hard to get this one right and does he like it and poor grace is like no?? "Grace want to be told to go to hell again then question?" YES!!!

the concept of rocky being able to hear grace's stretch marks and he says, "pretty. like eridian markings."

then grace tells rocky that stretch marks are actually considered ugly for human beauty standards. but rocky cannot fathom that. how could they be ugly, for they are the irrefutable proof of growth, of resilience, and of survival? it is like a story, written on skin.

and maybe grace has stretch marks because of his fluctuating weight, from starvation on the way to erid to the slow recovery journey. and in this context, how could rocky ever think them ugly? when this is the proof that grace sacrificed so, so much for him?
