Chronicles of the Wind Dragon

Chammy chuckled as he started cleaning up after everyone.

“Oh? You haven’t seen Teo’s sports car? It’s quite something. Not only does he act like a king, he goes around in fancy stuff like that showing off just how royal he is,” he joked, glancing over at Teo.

“But, I’m glad the both of you came over. Tell Luna I said hi, alright?”

While Teo cleaned up after him like his neighbor, the Kushala’s question prompted his brow to tilt. Maybe she wasn’t used to the latest technology Felynes engineers had built up north? It’s true she lived in an old ruined castle, on top of a mountain, even.

But before he was able to answer, Chammy had already commented on his royal and fancy lifestyle, to which Teo burst out laughing.

“Aw c'mon. How am I supposed to tell my subjects who’s in charge otherwise?” he replied on a joking tone, brushing crumbs off the napkin with his hand. “And of course, I’m certain Luna will be happy to hear you’re doing fine.”

After helping their host with the dishes, as he was still amused by Kusha’s confusion, Teo eventually grabbed his jacket and opened the front door. “I can show you my car if you’re curious,” he grinned, inviting her to follow. “It’s in the yard over there…”

The lean red engine was resting among the bushes, shining under the light of the sunset. With a careful eye, Teo leaned over the bodywork and inspected it, to make sure no bird had had the bad idea of dirtying his precious metal.

The word “Car” was something she was only barely familiar with. Having lived in a place that is essentially stuck in a particular time period, Kusha had never had the chance to get used to the newest technologies. She glanced between Chammy and Teo merrily laughing at their respective jests. She sighed and smiled. 

“Of course. I would be happy to visit again too” Kusha bid Chammy farewell.

And admittedly, Kusha felt utterly curious to see a car for the first time. Images of what one would look like began to pop up into her mind. She pictured a box-like design with wooden wheels being pushed along by some sort of contraption like a motor. Then she thought of a more silly futuristic design with bulky alien-like technology. Kusha somehow knew these weren’t correct…

“Well alright. I cannot seem to think about anything else at the moment” she replied to Teo’s invitation. As they walked into the yard, what she saw was unlike anything she could have imagined. Its design was sleek and smooth with a red metallic shell, seemingly shinier than her own metallic skin! The sun’s light reflected brilliantly against its exterior that even she felt a little envious!

Teo waved his hand dismissively. He wasn’t used to seeing Kusha with such a small guilty face – and things that were too unusual like this tended to make him a bit uncomfortable. Especially when his neighbor was involved. Come now, what would he look like if he started insisting to help her? It wouldn’t really be him, right?… Good thing that she eventually accepted without further discussion.

He gave a nod at Chammy’s attention, glad that the old Dragon, at least, quickly agreed to his idea. “I’ll make sure to send your way a whole new stash of chili as soon as I can, then. Just be careful as it’ll mostly be the strong type. I remember the Felyne Vienna one day put a little bit too much of it in her cooking, and she kicked herself pretty badly…”

He glanced at Kusha from the corner of his eyes. If he chose not to offer any hot pepper to her as well, it wasn’t out of dislike for her; but just because he knew she couldn’t handle spicy food. Not like she needed it in the cold climates; but still, a shame.

The rest of the dinner went rather smoothly, despite the initial sparks between the two guests. It seemed they had both managed to set aside the sarcastic remarks they were used to spitting at each other, spending effort instead to make the evening as pleasant as possible – more effort than it looked, but also less effort than they could have expected; at least in Teo’s case – if only for the sake of their sweet host.

“Time’s running,” Teo noted as he glanced out the window. At the end of the dinner, the setting sun had started to cast enchanting orange and purple lights into the sky. “Maybe I should think about driving back soon… Luna must be waiting for me.”

Kusha smiled from Chammy’s reassurance. Though she highly doubted that Chammy could move at such Valstrax-level speed, it felt nice to have support from a friend. She felt mostly the same receiving such support from Teo, though the way he dismissively waved his hand at the mention of giving a helping hand, Kusha knew this is as awkward for him as it is for her. At that point, she dug into her food.

“Chili peppers?” Kusha tilted her head “I am... not too fond of those The spicy kind anyway. Of course, coming from a denizen of the cold mountains such as myself” she chuckled, somewhat embarrassed “Bell peppers are fine for me however. A nice sweet taste” 

And the rest the dinner was pleasant. Albeit the gathering began with a bit of a rough start which could have ended in disaster, thankfully no such disaster came through. Kusha felt somewhat embarrassed having eaten a bit more than she initially intended, but having no breakfast that day might have something to do with that. She cleaned up after herself as she stood from her seat, even going so far as to place her dishes into the sink. She then glanced between both the other elders in the room and noticed the dynamic between the two. She recalled a friend she used to have a similar relationship with. 

“You two remind me of a dear friend of mine” Kusha whispered to herself “I wonder how she is doing...?” she muttered.

At the mention of the time, Kusha looked out the window and noticed the position of the sun and realized just how much time had already passed since their arrival. Kusha’s face reflexively raised her eyebrows and blinked “Goodness, that much time had already gone by? Perhaps I should be going as well” 

It was then that what Teo had said registered to her.

“That’s a great idea, Teo!” Chammy immediately piped in with a small grin, looking between the two dragons. He gave the fiery elder dragon the amount of wine he requrested, pouring just a quarter full of a wine glass which he procured via long tongue stretching into the kitchen.

“Actually, if I grab myself a satchel of Hot Drinks, I could probably go over and help out myself! Would be a good excuse for this old lizard to finally get out of the house more often,” he laughed before finishing off his own glass of wine.

Already he was in much higher spirits, and seeing the two dragons getting along after the earlier tension definitely did much to lift Chammy’s mood.

“Thank you, Cham.”

It didn’t come out as a big surprise that Kusha seemed startled by his offer to help, but she looked even more flabbergasted than he expected. He wouldn’t admit it, but one part of him felt a bit offended – and saddened – that she put so little trust into his word.

Still, he nodded at her question. “Sure. As long as you have the means to pay them.” He sipped his wine, watching her with narrow eyes. He knew she wasn’t exactly rolling in it. So after a second, he sighed and went back to his meal.

“But, provided you give them some good food and treat them well, they won’t ask for much.” He wiped his lips with a napkin. “I believe Mocha in particular wouldn’t mind a bit of physical work to keep herself busy,” he added in a mumble.

Chammy’s reaction made him smile, however. The old lizard’s enthusiasm truly was contagious.

“I didn’t know you could survive that cold,” Teo snorted. He was suddenly feeling generous. “By the way, perhaps I can also provide plenty of hot pepper for your hot drink needs, hm?”

Receiving kindness from anyone nowadays only brought Kusha a terrible feeling of guilt. Though she can understand why Chammy would be enthusiastic to help out, going so far is to endure the harsh cold just to help out. But Teo? She cant seem to wrap her head around it. After all, doesn’t he have a strong dislike towards her?

Kusha’s ears droop at the thought. This should be something she should handle alone. RIght?
