Hcs of Xavier x raven!Reader? Thank you in advance!
xavier x raven!reader hcs
writer's note: thank you for the request! i never thought of a raven reader, had to go read up on them... and wow the methods they used are brutal. reader here was a raven in the past, because i believe that its pretty much impossible for a raven to date xavier, considering their beliefs and xavier's current status as a criminal.
Context: reader is traveling with forsaken light!
Dating Xavier as a raven is complicated long before it ever becomes romantic. You are, quite literally, a living reminder of one of the darkest chapters in his life.
The first time he learns of your past affiliation with the Ravens, there is an unmistakable tension in the air. It's not that he blames you for being part of the organization, but it's still an unavoidable fact that you were part of it.
At the start, being around you is somewhat unbearable. Your presence (and Julian's) reminds him of the fortress. The massacre. How the ravens were killing people with cold smiles and the way he allowed it to go on for such a long time.
Yet as he spends more time with you, Xavier slowly realizes that you are different. You are not the same as the people who hurt those innocents. You are just another victim of the church, exactly like him.
Xavier understands indoctrination better than most people realize. While the Ravens and the Arbiters walked different paths, both were groomed to place the Church above conscience.
This leads him to pick up on many of your habits. Like how you fight with yourself before questioning a decision, or how you profusely apologize for mistakes that aren't your fault.
Instead of forcing you to change, he gives you space to figure things out yourself. After all, nobody could have convinced him to leave the Church before he was ready. He wouldn't deny you that same freedom.
One of the first things that truly draws Xavier to you is your resilience. Most people who escape institutions like the Raven's Nest either become consumed by bitterness or lose themselves entirely. Yet somehow, despite everything, you're still trying your best to search for a life beyond what the Archbishop decided for you.
Xavier finds that admirable. He doesn't say it often, but every time you choose your own path instead of blindly following someone else's, he feels a quiet sense of pride.
Neither of you are particularly good at talking about your feelings at first. Xavier has spent years burying his emotions beneath sarcasm and indifference, while you were practically trained to suppress your identity altogether.
Conversations about the past are always accidents, usually happening late at night when the tongue is loose and the mind is sentimental. Sometimes one of you says something without thinking, and suddenly you two spend a few minutes reminiscing about the past or comparing notes on who did what in the church (he has a surprisingly good ear for gossip).
Xavier is surprisingly patient whenever your Raven instincts resurface. When you give strangers a death glare, accidentally snap at someone for moving too quietly behind you, or struggle to relax during peaceful moments, he never mocks you for it. He knows habits built from the harsh training doesn't just disappear overnight. More than once, you've caught him subtly adjusting his own position so he can keep watch instead, giving you permission to rest without saying it out loud.
Despite his cynical attitude, Xavier genuinely wants you to discover who you are outside of being a Raven (and he also wants to be the one discovering you, cough cough).
He asks questions nobody has ever asked before. What food do you like? What hobbies would you have picked if you'd been given the choice? What name would you choose for yourself?
At first you thought him intrusive, only begrudgingly giving short, snappish answers because of the respect the rest of the group seems to have for him. Overtime though, these questions truly makes you think about yourself more.
When you finally give him your first proper answer, he gave you a small, satisfied smile and you had to duck your head before he noticed the red on your cheeks.
Xavier absolutely spoils you with food once he discovers your preferences. Most people don't realize how much he enjoys cooking, but preparing meals is one of the few things that still brings him uncomplicated happiness.
After growing up in the Raven's Nest, where everything was earned through obedience and achievements, having someone cook simply because they care about you feels almost unreal.
It doesn't hurt that Xavier's cooking is delicious. Comparing his cooking to the rations given at the Raven's Nest is like comparing a 3 star Michelin meal to a rock on the streets.
Xavier is not particularly affectionate in the traditional sense, but he is incredibly consistent. He checks whether you've eaten, makes sure you're sleeping when you can, things you would expect more from a husband than a boyfriend (am i projecting my husband material xavier hc here? yes. absolutely).
Falling in love with him feels strangely peaceful. Not because either of you are free from your pasts, but because neither of you have to explain them. Xavier understands what it's like to dedicate your life to a cause only to realize that cause betrayed you. He understands the guilt, the anger, and the grief that follows.
It creates a kind of unspoken connection between the two of you, a special bond of sorts.
end note: my hand hurts. also considering revamping my blog to follow a theme... hmm....
