A Positive Light on a Negative Space by Tang Yau Hoong

Stop making the argument “if black lives mattered so much to them then why is black on black crime so high?” Black on black crime is a loaded term that enables racists. It distracts us from the real issue which is our justice system and police wrongfully targeting black people. It affirms the deplorable viewpoint that the only reason black people are disenfranchised is due to their own behavior and that is not fair! Black people are scared and angry. They feel they can’t go to the police for help for the fear that they may be shot. Do you understand how sad that is? It is up to police to end the negative stigma that has surrounded them. Do police officers put their their life on the line everyday? Yes! But we live in a society now where black people put THEIR life on the line every day walking out their front door. Being a police officer is an occupation, a choice. Being black is not. And black people are dying because of the color of their skin and that’s an unfortunate fact (systematic racism). And that’s why black lives matter because society has told them for decades that they do not. P.S. I would be willing to bet if black cops were systematically murdering white people a lot of you who don’t give a fuck would finally start to care.
