With two 4lb sledge hammers and 1hr of hammering later, I managed to flatten this mushroomed strut tower I've been meaning to attempt fixing for years but never got around to. The mushrooming never seemed that bad until I did the alignment on the S14 after fitting my wheels on. The left side was at more than - 3.0° and the right was around - 2.7°. The difference was around 0.7°-0.8° with both sides maxed out towards 0° on the camber plate. That's too much for me to feel comfortable with, even though I did get the car to somewhat go straight after three alignments. Knowing I'm not driving on a near perfect/symmetrical suspension geometry just irrated me to no ends. Finally able to show off my front suspension work a little now that's it's somewhat presentable. Still kinda ratchet but Ikeya Formula lower control arms cost an arm and leg just because they're used in D1. Engine still stock but mods are tasteful. I've been meaning to replace my entire tie rod assembly since when I first got the S14 quite a few years back. The tie rod boots were all torn and shredded exposing the inner joint. The outer tie rod joint was loose. I replaced the outer with a budget KTS heim join rod but that fell through over the years as a daily driver, as the joint was exposed to dirt and nature which wore it out and got loose again. After several years of putting it off, I finally got a set of @ikeyaformula inner tie rods with spacers for that extra lock angle to match my rear suspension of Ikeya Formula linkages (even though I don't drift, I like to future proof). @dmaxjapan outer ball joint tie rods for that daily driven reliability. And of course a brand new set of tie rod boots. Now the the front suspension of my car is finally presentable and no longer ratchet. Some close to me already know, but I'm a HUGE fan of cyberpunk and more specifically of Ghost in Shell and everything in the entire series. I've been meaning to get into the original manga for quite a while as I've watched all the anime series and the movies. Recently found out @kodansha_comics released this hard cover deluxe edition of all three volumes by Shirow Masamune. This set keeps the original Japanese right-to-left orientation and katakana onomatopoeia with some redrawn pages by the request of Shirow sensei himself. I bought this two years ago for @nekoshishi 's ND but I never got around to installing it. These Garuda mirrors are made with precision from Japan and are a perfect fit replacing the oem mirrors. They're blue tinted, with back-lit turn signals AND they're convex, so wifey's blind spot, bright high beams, and cars in the next lane that can't see your signals are all covered. Not sure if I made the wrong choice on these Rays to apply Cquartz on, or if I made the wrong choice on deciding to apply cquartz on these Rays. RAYS WHY YOU NO CLEAR COAT? The metallic finishes are cool but the lack of clear makes it really hard to wipe a microfiber cloth across it. And holy shit these spokes and groves are hard to reach. So another depressing discovery is that... The chassis itself seems to be bent. I've always wondered why the left side of the car sits lower than the the right, and after 3 years I finally discovered it while readjusting my coilovers. The chassis is punched in around below the driver seat area and caused the rear subframe to be twisted, resulting in a lower driver side. This saddens me because the one thing I wish I never had on this car was a bent frame, and here I am stuck with a bent frame. As if I don't have enough on my plate trying to fix emission and alignment issues on the car, I discover this. I'm not sure what I would do yet, either repair the frame or find a straight shell. Either way, those options won't be happening any time soon. It seems the longer I drive this car, the more problems it presents.
