every single negative stereotype about women was dreamt up by men who were projecting. fight me about it.
âwomen canât driveâ
It is so well known that women are better and safer drivers than men that OUR CAR INSURANCE RATES ARE LOWER. Women get into fewer accidents, get fewer DUIs, and receive fewer speeding tickets than men.
âwomen never shut upâ
Several scientific studies have shown that not only do men talk more than women, they also think that women have been talking for much longer than they actually have. Men interrupt and talk over women, dominate conversations, and still think women talk too much.
âwomen are shallowâ
Lol next
âmy wife is my ball and chain lmaoâ
Multiple studies have shown that marriage between men and women: Increases male lifespan, decreases female lifespan Decreases male depression rates, increases female depression rates Decreases male stress levels, increases female stress levels Increases male health and happiness, decreases female health and happiness Increases a manâs chance of getting a raise or promotion, decreases a womanâs chances of getting a raise or promotion
âwomen are too emotionalâ
Men love to say this about women after hurting them, in order to shift the blame and dismiss their feelings in one go. In reality, women are taught to hold our tongues and control ourselves quite literally from birth. Weâre taught to put menâs needs and wants ahead of our own emotions regardless of the personal cost. Men are taught to do more or less whatever the fuck they want to women. Men take their emotions out on women while women are expected to shove theirs down.
I could go on and on but I donât really think I need to.
âwomen canât driveâ (The Guardian) (CBS News) (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety)
âwomen talk to muchâ (PBS, resources included)
âwomen are shallowâ (just read the book, Dataclysm. by okcupid founder (?) that includes data about sex, gender, race, in finding online romantic partners)
âball and chainâ (University of London)
for all you pissbabies crying about sources
A lot of people are really scared and angry because of the results of the newest climate change reports â as they should be. But Iâm already seeing a lot of posts and news reports like âHEREâS WHAT YOU CAN DO TO FIGHT GLOBAL WARMINGâ and bizarrely enough, the answers are never like âweed out climate change deniers from your government, impose strict new rules for the corporations that are  creating most of the emissions, pour government resources into alternate forms of fuel, etc.â Itâs always like âcarpool to work!â
Look. Of course you should be working to reduce waste in your own life. But letâs not fucking pretend that consumers are the ones who made this mess. You know what another recent study found? Just 100 companies are responsible for 71% of global emissions. If the rest of us stopped ALL WASTE and fucking ascended to a higher plane of existence that no longer requires consumption of any kind, the world would still be absolutely fucked if those 100 companies keep on as they do.
I hate this personal responsibility model when it comes to conservation. By ignoring the actual source of the problem and focusing on individuals instead, guess who gets targeted? The absolute most vulnerable individuals on the planet. When people advocate personal responsibility, somehow theyâre never talking about billionaires and their private jets. Theyâre creating straw bans that will make life more dangerous for people with disabilities. Theyâre shaming women for using disposable menstrual products. Theyâre criticizing the poor and destitute for using âwastefulâ products because theyâre all they can afford. Theyâre making vaguely eugenic statements about getting people in âthird world countriesâ to stop ~breeding~ so much. Itâs monstrous.
Stop shaming consumers for the sins of corporations and their powerful investors. Stop placing the blame at the feet of the people who already have the hardest time getting through life. Do something, and by âdo somethingâ I mean buy a reusable coffee cup on the way to fucking vote. Go to a protest. Call a representative. Demand accountability from the people who got us into this mess.
Unions are trash. Theyll Destroy a whole company for firing a shitty worker.
unions are the reason you arenât paid 2.50 an hour with steel beams about to bust ya head open shut up lol
Unions are why you have 5 day, 40 hour full-time work weeks. Unions are why they have to pay you in actual dollars instead of âcompany creditsâ that you can only spend at the company-owned stores. Unions are why there are fucking fire exits at your place of work. Unions are why itâs not okay for your supermarket ground beef to be any percentage human.
You think your company pays you out of the goodness of their hearts? Or even out of âmarket pressure?â The âjob marketâ is a myth perpetuated by the capitalists. Corporations would pay you nothing if they could get away with it. And you argue âoh, but if they paid me nothing Iâd just go to another one.â Wrong. Because to maximize profits, they all want to pay you nothing. Corporations exist to maximize profits while reducing risk for investors. Itâs part of their entire function to find ways to cut costs as much as possible, and that includes finding ways to pay you nothing.
Unions are your defense against that. You think all a union does is strike? If you pay union dues, a lot of that is spent on lobbyists in various governments reminding your lawmakers that you have rights as a living human being that a corporation should not be able to stomp all over. Unions hire lawyers so that if youâre fired for bullshit reasons, the union can stand up for you against your boss. Theyâre called unions because workers are uniting to pool resources so that they can stand up to these corporate overlords with more money than God. Unions exist because you might not have the words, resources, or time to fight workplace injustices all by yourself. Thatâs the whole fucking point.
And if a business shuts down because a union is striking, itâs because the business was abusing people and didnât deserve to be in business anyway. Donât make excuses for the corporations. They already have trillions of dollars and a couple million lawyers to do that for themselves. They donât need your help.
Read aaallll of this.
âSo what can we learn from this study? On the data side, we see that everything is proceeding as planned. Nobodyâs paying $50 for a burger at McDonaldâs, or $16 for a can of tuna at Safeway. Employers wish their profits were higher, and workers are glad they got a raise, but they wish they made more money. Three years after Seattle started down the road to $15, everything is as it should be. Those apocalyptic claims of destruction and business closures havenât been proven true. One thing the study didnât explain was why the sky didnât fall as promised. Why werenât workers laid off in droves, or replaced with robots? Why didnât prices skyrocket? Why does Seattle have more restaurants now than at any point in its history? Itâs because those workers who saw a raise now have more money to spend in the city around them. Those restaurant workers are eating in more restaurants. Theyâre buying more groceries. Theyâre buying more clothes and cars. That increased consumer demand is creating jobs, and more than paying for the increased minimum wage. The $15 minimum wage established a positive feedback loop that created growth in Seattle by including more people in the economy. In other words, it worked exactly as intended.â
â Seattleâs $15 Minimum Wage Experiment Is a Success (via allthecanadianpolitics)
Iâm gonna leave this right here.
When you give consumers money, they spend it. When you give old, rich, white men money, they hoard it.

âIf you criticize X in women but do not criticize X in men, then you do not have a problem with X, you have a problem with women. For X please insert words like âanger,â âambition,â âloudness,â âstubbornness,â âcoldness,â âruthlessness.ââ

Gentrification creates a stifling homogeneity in urban areas that makes it less suited for the everyday lives of the lower class and more suited towards the leisure and tourism of those with expendable income.
An old, decrepit laundromat gets replaced by an upscale bakery? And people are mad? Itâs not that the poor hate organic vegan cupcakes, itâs that most of us donât have a way to do laundry in our own home.
Run-down corner stores replaced by hand-made designer clothing boutiques? We donât hate your eco-fabric shawl, but I canât eat that for dinner after work like I could have a can of beans I grabbed from that corner store when I donât have time to take the bus to the real grocery store after work.
What gentrification brings in and of itself is not typically bad, itâs that gentrification brings institutions of leisure and pleasure and makes it so that the poor have to go farther out of their way for basic necessities. It turns low-income living spaces into local tourist attractions. It can even create food deserts by putting restaurants, grocery stores, etc. in that the majority of the lower class cannot afford.
Imagine if someone totally renovated your house and turned it into a mini theme park - they took away your sleeping space, where you prepare food, where you clean yourself and get ready for your day, and replaced it with things that will please people who are visiting, who have their own homes they can go back to, who are here not for their entire life but just as a distraction from their otherwise mundane existence. Itâs not that you hate theme parks, itâs not like youâve never been to a theme park and vow to never visit one again. Itâs just that you need to live! To survive! And the leisure of those who have more than you should not invalidate your existence.
I am glad this has made the rounds. Some people feel a dense misunderstanding or misinterpretation concerning gentrification, and I think it helps to hear a description/explanation of what gentrification is from those who are both affected by it and educated by the culture from which it hails. I and many others enjoy some of the delights of gentrification while simultaneously having their livelihoods threatened by it.Â
A male colleague was making fun of the #metoo movement a few days ago, and many more (Iâm one of 5 women in a department of 200 men) joined in. So I raised my voice and said I was glad women were speaking up about sexual harassment and assault and that I hoped that everyone who perpetuated this toxic behavior got taken down.
âYeah but itâs a trend now, lots of them are just saying it for their 15 minutes of fame.â He then continued to say that he didnât know anyone who had been harassed or any man who had done it.
I asked him if he had a daughter. He did. I asked him how old she was. She was was 17. I told him Iâd bet my rent money that his daughter had experienced sexual harassment.Â
âThatâs impossible.âÂ
âDid you ask her?âÂ
âNo.âÂ
âWell then, do it.â
The next day, he came in the office with five bouquets of flowers for all the women in our department, including me. He publicly apologized for making fun of sexual harassment and for making our lives harder by doing so. He said that he simply hadnât known how widespread it was. Apparently, his daughter deals with it very regularly. She hadnât told him because of the way he spoke about assault cases that were on the news. She thought heâd think less of her if sheâd mention it. It was her idea that he should make a public announcement. He said he felt like a bad father.Â
I said:Â âYou were. Same goes for everyone who laughed with you. Be better, now you know better. And educate other men that still think the same way you did yesterday. And next time someone tells you about an experience they have, donât automatically assume that because you havenât seen it, itâs not true. That kind of willful ignorance is why we still deal with this shit.â
He also offered to pay my rent as that was part of the bet, but I told him Iâd rather have him put effort in being a person his daughter and wife could be proud of.Â
In conversation the other day my mom stopped and asked my dad about what percentage of women he thought had experienced sexual harassment. He said about 20-30% maybe. My mom told him that both of us had been harassed multiple times at work (same goes for both of her sisters) and that she had actually been assaulted by a groper on a public bus. I have never seen anyoneâs face go slack so quickly before as he realized that literally every woman in his family had experienced this. And while Iâm glad he believed us and has changed his view on that subject I still canât shake the frustration, the anger, that it required being sat down and spoonfed these incidents that we didnât particularly wanted to relive. This is something that women have been saying for years, but men just never listen. Not even when theyâre forced to sit in mandatory harassment in the workplace training seminars.

I think one of my least favorite types of responses to people speaking up on sexual harassment and sexual assault is are articles like âin wake of weinstein, men wonder if hugging women still okâ, and comments like âthis is why men donât pursue women anymoreâ, âi donât wanna work with women cause i donât want a lawsuitâ, or âi donât even look at women anymore cause everything is sexual harassmentâ. this is a particular brand of rape culture, men acting as if women are overreacting, as if men donât have the basic social skills to know the difference between wanted and unwanted advances, as if women simply setting boundaries is âcramping their styleâ and âemasculatingâ them, as if the rules of respecting women are super confusing, so confusing that theyâre supposedly forcing men not to interact with us altogether.
this is an act theyâve been putting on for decades: playing stupid, pretending not to know better and then getting upset when we tell them what âbetterâ is. if that doesnât show you how emotional and emotionally manipulative they are, i donât know what does.
you know whatâs really genuinely unsettling? the degree to which men fucking do not want to sympathize with/be interested in women.
male audiences will happily watch a dozen superhero shows, but then something like Agent Carter or Supergirl turn up and theyâre panned from the first trailer and have to struggle for ratings. male audiences will watch countless installments of a franchise as long as itâs about men doing man things but the second a character like Rey or Furiosa or god forbid four entire female Ghostbusters steps up and takes a position of prominence itâs âpandering sjw bullshitâ.
itâs not pandering. men just aggressively donât want to have to be invested in a womanâs narrative and itâs really gross.
anyway re: everyone telling me to âStop making this a gender thingâ or some variation on that
this isnât like⌠an opinion Iâm pulling out of my ass here? this starts where earlier than tv shows and hollywood blockbusters, when all the kids in a class are reading Harry Potter or Percy Jackson or Eragon o Lord of the Rings or Maze Runner or whatever the hip book is right now. the books like that, the ones that become popular reading, are overwhelmingly about male leads, because male is still considered the default.Â
thereâs a split in YA literature, between books that are âfor everyoneâ and âfor girlsâ, and thatâs honestly the entire issue in a tiny little box right there. stories about men are supposed to be accessible for everyone, but stories about girls are seen as 1.) inherently for women and 2.) something that only women will care about.
men grow up in a society that doesnât make them go out of their way to get into the heads of women and empathize with then. historically itâs been very easy for men to not engage with female-led media if they donât want to, whereas (like someone else commented on this post) girls and women have had very little choice in the past because everything was about men. we didnât even question it.
and now the women are arriving in mainstream media in ways that say theyâre important and they matter and
small (or sometimes not so small) but loud-enough-to-be-acknowledged groups of men lose. their. shit.
because they think thereâs something inherently Not For Them about a womanâs story, and they never learned how to deal with it.
(also once again, because  LOT of yaâll donât seem to get this here: Iâm trying to talk about knee-jerk reactions to female-centered works - often before they even come out. not whether or not you personally thought [x show or movie] was good. ya feel?)
i donât think iâve ever read a single post that iâve agreed with so totally and so immediately and hereâs why:
i love books, right? and from the ages of about 11-15 i was insanely invested in teenage/ya fantasy and sci-fi. harry potter, percy jackson, all of the books op listed above- and one of the things that made those books so great was that you could have a conversation about them with anyone! a lot of the guys in my class also loved this type of genre and iâd often talk about books with them (even my own brother has read all of the books listed above) weâd have long, interesting conversations about these books and it was great.
but then iâd mention something about the hunger games, or the divergent series, or uglies, the raven cycle, mara dyer, the mortal instruments, the selection, etc. and the response would always be the same: either âi havenât read itâ or âi couldnât get into itâ or âit doesnât seem like my type of thingâ
even outside of the ya genre, looking at something like contemporary fiction or whatever- do you know how many guys will talk endlessly about the great gatsby or catcher in the rye or any other male-centric novel? but when you bring up something as influential as pride and prejudice or jane eyre or practically /anything/ written by/focused around a woman- you get the same responses as before
society has made it so that women have no choice whether to engage with male-centric stories or not: from children, a big portion of the media we consume focuses on the male perspective and like,,, thatâs not necessarily a bad thing /in itself/- the bad thing is that it doesnât work both ways and itâs not an even split. whereas young girls are surrounded by and expected to empathise with films/books/media concerning men, itâs not the same for young boys: they have narratives that either focus entirely or largely around them.Â
women have no trouble consuming media that focuses on a male narrative because itâs been labelled as the default, the ânormalâ- whereas men struggle to watch/read anything that doesnât focus around them because theyâve never /had/ to.
