To celebrate our one year of being married, John and I spent our time in Japan, running around the bright lights of Tokyo and playing in the snow in Hakuba.
Standing next to the ocean doesn’t make me feel as small as standing next to this cliff does.
I had been spending way too much time in the apartment recently, feeling so apathetic and sluggish. “But Kristin, you live on an island, surrounded by beaches, go out!” Duh, right? So, we went down to tank beach to take pictures and walk around. Tank beach isn’t one you can swim in or would want to swim in with its high surf. It’s a cool spot to watch the waves and mill around. I’ve only been there once, but returning yesterday made me realize, “Shit, this beach is disgusting.” It’s littered with trash. Plastic and glass bottles, plastic straws, shoes, laundry baskets, plastic bags... This island is way too small to support garbage like this. I’m not entirely sure how all of this trash got here. From the looks of it, most of it is coming from the ocean and washing up on shore, possibly from other countries, some of it from locals or tourism on the island quite possibly, too. This has got to change and we all need to hold ourselves personally responsible. I don’t expect our habits and consumption to change over night. But just by becoming aware, small efforts can cause huge ripples. I write this as I’m sipping a drink through a plastic straw in a plastic cup. I’m not always being consciously aware of the damage the products I consume can cause. So, by no means am I trying to be on top of a pedestal or endorse judging others. I frequently forget to ask for no straw and I often forget to bring my reusable bags when grocery shopping. I’m very aware of this and actively trying to change it. If you don’t know where to start with change, research it. Say no to plastic straws when out to eat (if you can’t live without, look into reusable stainless steel straws), get a water filter for your home and eco friendly water bottle, get reusable shopping bags. . . . “Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.” - Robert Kennedy (at Saipan)
I’ve been back from freezing cold Japan for a week and still haven’t gone to the beach yet. Motivation, where are you? (at Saipan)

Ever felt like you thought or worried so much about something that you willed it into existence? I was so worried before leaving for Japan, which was weird. I've traveled to places plenty of times, this shouldn't feel foreign to me. It was a really weird unsettling feeling and I couldn't
So happy to be back to tropical island life. 🌴 (at Saipan)
Maintenance woke me up this morning, literally what sounded like hammering the same nail for two hours straight. When it finally stopped I napped until almost 3pm and it felt so good and also so horrible at the same time. Worried my family in the states cause they hadn’t heard from me yet. 😬whoops! I’m not dead guys, don’t worry!Challenges of living 16 hours ahead. . . I also wrote a new blog post. Direct link will be in bio since I’m not “verified” and can’t use that cool swipe up method on insta stories. #salty We had an adventure within an adventure trying to get to Japan. . . I still don’t know what I want this blog to be, so for now I’ll just be all over the place till I figure it out. 🤸♀️. . Go read it and show me some love ❤️. . Also this picture is irrelevant to the blog, but @milkyorbs is a badass in it. 😍 (at Saipan)

Getting lost in the maze of the Tsukiji fish market. (at Tsukiji Fish Market(築地魚河岸))
Piss alley. Shinjuku, Tokyo. Also known as memory lane. The restaurants are cramped and very small. You can get some pretty odd meals here consisting of frog, turtle, snake, and salamander. (at Shinjuku)
I was super hesitant to come to Hakuba. The entire time in Tokyo, before heading to hakuba, I kept on saying and thinking we really shouldn’t go. I had serious doubts that any part of me had the capacity to even attempt to ski. I was almost sure I’d break myself. I was also almost certain they’d have no winter gear that would fit me. I had no confidence whatsoever. And then we got there and met up with our friends. Ate awesome food. Stayed at a beautiful welcoming hotel. Got hooked up with gear from @rhythmjapan that worked out great. Got an awesome ski lesson. Enjoyed perfect snow. We were so welcomed in from the get go and it was so refreshing. The hospitality japan has offered has been nothing short of amazing. We didn’t spend long in hakuba, but I’m now considering working in japan for next winter and learning to snowboard. 🖤 @monsterjohn @echo_aroundtheworld @nomadventurejunky (at Tokyo, Japan)
Made a friend while walking around hakuba the other day. He just wanted to love and be loved ❄️ (at Hakuba)
What a change of scenery. Surrounded by ocean normally, now heaps of snow. (at Hakuba)
